  1. Pregnancy insomnia

  2. Boobs hurt

  3. constantly feeling sick

  4. gagging. a lot.

  5. look so pregnant anyone who sees me is guessing I am pregnant!

i guess points 2-5 are 'good' signs?

roll on a scan or something, I keep worrying that there's something wrong because I'm 5 years older than my last baby and 8 years older from my very first!!

Yes, all good signs I'm afraid! I remember with my first dc I couldn't wait to look pregnant then with the second it was like "fat? already?!". I will not be having any more dcs and feel strangely envious of your horrible symtpoms. Does that make me wierd??

Oh God I feel your pain fluffy, I am 10 weeks too (but with my 1st) and everyday I keep saying to dp 'I can't wait to get to 12 weeks for this to go away'!

Literally my body has been taken over I've gone from an energetic, slim and healthy runner/ walker to a carb-overloading (to help with nausea), lazy, slightly rotund mess in the past 6 weeks! Even typing on the computer makes me feel sick! And I can't even hug DP at night for reassurance as I have to have a pillow either side of me cos of sore boobs - arrggh!

I have had two scans (at 6 and 9 weeks) due to spotting/ cramps and both come back fine but still so anxious about it especially since my 9 week one classed as my dating scan so won't get one at 12 weeks.

Just looking forward to telling everyone at 12 weeks, fingers crossed everything ok, so they don't think I'm just turning into a fat bird!

Planner are they really not giving you a dating scan because you had one at 9wks?! Am I being naive or is that pretty poor? Will you get a nuchal fold scan instead? (I'm 9+4 and feel both your pain, literally in the case of achey boobs!)

planner26 · 29/04/2010 12:30

I know I am so annoyed about it it seems really early. To top it all my only midwife appointment I was literally pushed into the room, she bodged up taking my bloods, never introduced herself and threw a load of pamphlets at me to go and read rather than explaining herself. Whenever I ring her now about it she doesn't answer her phone or says she is going to ring me back and doesn't.

Because I couldn't ask her and she never explained nuchal screening to me, I only have info I've gleaned of the internet. I'm not sure if all hospitals do this type of screening? She never mentioned it to me, only the blood tests.

We want to get a private scan in a couple of weeks but I can't even talk to the MW, to get info about arranging it. Arrggh!

cluckyduck · 29/04/2010 12:36

Oh that is shit. My booking appointment left me in hysterical floods of tears, so you have my sympathies too.

What county are you in? I know the scans offered do differ.

I would ring up the womens health or EPAU unit in your local hospital and ask their opinion?

Where did you have the 9week scan, at the EPAU?

planner26 · 29/04/2010 12:42

I just got on my high horse and rang the Doctors to change midwives - which they let me do so I've got my first appointment with another tomorrow. Do you think that is a good idea? At least she should be able to answer my questions.

I am in North Yorkshire and had my scans at the EPAU. I really want one at 12 weeks to double-check everything ok (I know it's a bit over-anxious) as don't want to tell everyone without it. Will you get nuchal fold scan check?

cluckyduck · 29/04/2010 12:44

I think thats a really good idea, and good on you for being assertive and not just sitting back and whinging (like me, haha!)

You should get one as far as I am aware, but I suppose we need some other North Yourkshire ladies to confirm that. I had EPAU scans at 5wks and 7wks as I had spotting and as far as I was aware they were a separate entity to regular scans?

Definitely ask tomorrow, be assertive!

MrsSenior · 29/04/2010 19:10

I don't know about North Yorkshire but where I am if they have accurately dated the pregnancy (which they will have been able to do at your 9 week scan, even in EPAU) then that is why you aren't offered another scan. Because the reason for the 12 week scan is to date the pregnancy, not as an anomoly scan (like the 20 week one).

As for the nuchal scanning I think that really varies around the country so I'd check with your midwife when you see her, but you could always have it done privately if you felt you wanted it and your hospital doesnt offer it.

Alternatively, if you didn't want to go down the screening route for whatever reason (and you should always think carefully before having any screening tests) then you could have a private 'bonding scan'???

It all really depends on your reasons for the scan... I can totally understand your fears, but unfortunately a scan doesn't always mean everything is ok and of course cannot predict what might happen further down the line. I hope you find some of this helpful?? I just don't want you to stress about not having a scan, it's not the be all and end all that everyone seems to think it is.

I wish you all the luck with your little one and whatever you decide to do. xxx

MrsSenior · 29/04/2010 19:12

P.S. Well done for changing your midwife,.. hope you hve a beter time with your new one! xx

planner26 · 30/04/2010 11:04

Thanks Mrs Senior! I think because it is my first and I have had spotting on and off since I found out I am hyper-anxious about things. I know 12 week scan doesn't mean everything ok but I think it would reassure me and I would like to take the nuchal screening if possible too (going to ask mw about this today).

The specialist at EPAU said the same about dating - that they can accurately do this from 9 weeks, so this is why I do not get a 12 week scan.

Hopefully I'll be able to go through my options today, fingers crossed nuchal screening will not be too expensive! x
