odd discharge?!

Hi, This is my first post, so hoping you ladies can help/empathise with me!
OK, I'm 9w 4d at the moment. For 2 weeks now (on and off), I have had odd discharge, as follows -
7w 4d - went to the loo, and it was pink when I wiped. I just about had a heart attack!
Very pale brown discharge continued after this (almost a tinge of orange coloured) for 8 days. I went to see my GP, and she gave me 7 days worth of amoxicillin, in case it was an infection. By day 5 of the antibiotics, then discharge was lighter in colour, and was just every so often over a few days, so I assumed they had worked, and started to relax.
However, a day after finishing the pills, I have odd discharge again - sort of yellowish in colour.
I had a scan at 9w, which showed strong heartbeat.
Has anyone else gone through anything like this? Some websites say yellow discharge is not normal, but other people say they had it constantly.
My history - I had 2 miscarriages last year - one at 5ish weeks in sept (started bleeding), then one at 9w in december (was spotting dark dirty brown for 3 weeks, then passed red blood, then no heartbeat at scan).
I also have one son, who has just turned 5.

Any help would be wonderful.

can prenatal vitamins affect things like this? I'm using one with a high Vit B6 in it, which I know makes pee bright yellow orange.

Hi vmcd - I'm by no means an expert in this sort of thing, but your discharge doesn't sound that unusual to me. Brownish/ pinkish discharge (or mild spotting) seems to be relatively common in early pregnancy - I had it on and off from 5 to 7.5 weeks, and the doctor who gave me an early scan thought it was nothing to worry about and mentioned they sometimes expect that kind of spotting slightly later in pregnancy (i.e. perhaps when you have experienced it?). I also had a couple of days of yellowish discharge which cleared up by itself.

My guess would be that you had light spotting that cleared up by itself (nothing to do with the antibiotics even?) and that the yellowish discharge will also clear up, but I would go back to the GP in a few days if you are worried (or if the discharge is smelly/ itchy, of course).

It's possible vitamins could make a difference, I think. If you had a heartbeat at 9w then that's a brilliant sign and chances are very good that everything's fine

I'm 10 weeks and for the last couple of days I have had a very light brown sometimes pink blood discharge. I have never had this in my previous pregnancies. I feel otherwise fine and have had no pain or cramping. It's only there when I've been to the loo and it's on the tissue. If I hadn't looked I'd be none the wiser. I've mentioned it to a few people and nearly all of them have said they had the same when they were pregnant. I have been so worried but now feel a bit more relaxed. I have a scan booked for Friday so we'll know for definate then.

thanks, both. Anyone else have anything similar?
Nancy10, best of luck with your scan, let us know how it goes.

Not orange, but have had lots of discharge, greenish, yellowish, whitish, couple of times brownish. I will be 15 weeks on Friday and am not worried about the discharge - I think it is v normal and I don't have an infection. I don't have it normally, but I do remember it from my last pregnancy. From lots of posts I have read, it seems v common. Have you got a date for your booking in app?

vmcd28 · 27/04/2010 18:56

thanks, domestic goddess. thats reassuring. My booking in appointment is a week today, 5th May.
I was blissfully ignorant when I had my son 5 years ago - I didnt analyse every little thing, and didnt spend loads of time on the internet either, so I have no clue if this was the same as last time or not. I know I didnt bleed red, but no idea what the discharge or anything else was like!

I am almost 13 weeks and have been having yellow-greenish mucus type discharge since months before I was pregnant. I went to local clinic and after check-up they say everything is fine, no infection or thrush or anything worse. I remember very well having a nice white discharge during my first pregnancy, and I believe something is wrong.. I hope it will not affect the baby (haven?t had my first scan yet).

vmcd28 · 28/04/2010 10:56

when I mentioned it to both my GP and to the midwife at the EPU, they both said, "It sounds like old blood mixed in with the discharge" but neither of them looked at it or took a sample or swab, so how can they be sure? When I look at it, it really doesnt look like there's any old blood mixed in at all - it's all evenly coloured (wouldnt it be streaky if dried blood was mixed through it?), and is almost a beige/sometimes green/yellow/sometimes orange colour.
When I M/C last year, the spotting I had was dark brown and/or discharge with streaks of dark brown through it, so it's not the same as I had then.
toja555, best of luck, and let us know how you get on.
