Waters breaking or have I peed myself? (35+ wks)

I just stood up and realised that I'm wet and so is the sofa. I hadn't noticed anything happening. I'm 35+3 and have been having braxton hicks infrequently over the past few days. Since I stood up I have changed and walked around a bit and there's been no more fluid.

With both of my previous births, my membranes were broken by the mw during labour and there was a lot more fluid.

Could this be my waters? Or have I just peed myself without noticing? (Lovely)

I remember asking the exact same question on MN once 4 hours later DD1 was born

but it could be pee especially if it's your third baby, put a pad on and monitor the situation FWIW I thought my waters might have gone last night but they hadn't!

any news this morning?

Does it smell like wee?

poguemahone · 27/04/2010 07:33

Oh sweetkitty that was a quick one!

OnlyWantsOne - It's been about an hour since it happened (I'm in America and it's 1.30am here) . I can't tell what it smells like tbh. Probably because I'm shitting myself all a-fluster

right... walk away from the sofa, and your wet clothes, have a cup of T - and then go back and have a good sniff

Thanks you 2!

Good advice Only. I still can't tell and neither can DH so I'm going off to try to get some sleep. (I've even done deranged things like producing a 'new' wee and doing a sniff comparison.)

My waters came in several small gushes about 5 or so minutes apart. At first I thought I'd wet myself, but when it kept happening I realised I wasn't THAT incontinent. .

But I agree the best test right now is to smell it. Like sweetkitty says, put a pad on and check for smell and colour. I'm sure you'd know if it was pee.

Also, when I called the hospital to say my waters had broken, I was told it could still be up to 36 hours before labour established, so I guess there's no panic if you're having no other signs of labour yet anyway.

OnlyWantsOne · 27/04/2010 09:14

But as your 35 weeks I would give them a call and tell them - they could stop labour if needed be

MmeLindt · 27/04/2010 09:17

Call the hospital and ask their advice. How far away from your hospital are you?

poguemahone · 27/04/2010 19:46

Thanks everyone for your sound advice. I'm in a different timezone hence the delay in responding. The good news is it wasn't amniotic fluid so I'm simply incontinent...
