Oh no, I've got the same MW team

I really, really disliked my main community mw with my last pg and I've just found out I have the same team this time too. Two of the three I saw were nice, but my named one was a sour-faced meanie. Dh thinks she's okay, but there's no personal side to her, she's cold and just not friendly. I know that sounds pathetic, but I want someone nice who will make my pregnancy feel just a little buit special, not just like I'm another fattie for her to tend to.
Just wanted to rant really, not much I can do about it.

i changed doctors surgery to avoid a hv i hated when i had second baby. just check with the surgery you apply to that they dont use the same mw team and you may be able to change. or you could see the doctor for every check rather than mw. good luck, and congrats on your pregnancy

I chose to have indpendent midwives four times over and it was the best decision I ever made. I enjoyed my pregnancies and feel I had the best possible births for me.

I KNOW they're expensive and believe me we're not at all well off. Dh is an actor. We have a crap old car, my kids have never been abroad and our house is too small.

However, I deeply mistrust the medical profession and it was vital to dh and me to be able to feel in control.

The same midwife delivered all four of my babies at home. She's become more like a friend and I'll be eternally grateful to her for giving me the most amazing birth experiences which I'll never forget.

Hi! I had a rubbish midwife or 6 fro my first pregnancy so I went down the independent route this time even though we could hardly afford it. I had an amazing homewater birth and feel fantastic and so happy! I had PND last time due to bad exp. Also I didn't really like my community MW as she was a bit of a battleaxe. You are allowed to request to see another as afar as I know. It doesn't sound pathetic as it's an incredibly important time and you need someone you can trust, since having my second son I've joined the one mother one midwife campaign which is trying to change situations just like yours. They can also probably point you in the right direction for getting a different MW but if you can afford it I would go for an IM. www.onemotheronemidwife.org.uk

If you don't want to pay for an IM it doesn't mean that you're stuck with a midwife you don't get on with - you can say that you don't want to see her again and at least you like the other 2 in the team! See this site . My last pregnancy, I had one midwife I was happy to see, got all my antenatal appts at home...don't ask don't get, IME
