Omeprazole??

Just been prescribed this by my GP as ranitidine is no longer working for me. It's not a pregnancy thing, though I'm sure it's been exacerbated from being pregnant, but I have GERD as well as asthma and the two worsen each other. Obviously I trust my GP to think its safe to take in pregnancy, but just skimmed the leaflet and it doesnt even mention it. Is anyone else on it? I'm 37 weeks by the way.

I'm on Omeprazole - have been for a while. I was on it (40mg) before I got pregnant and my GP took me off everything when we got our BFP. After things like Peptac and Gaviscon were not working (even to begin with!) I asked to be put back on it, to which he had no objections. I also asked to try it at a lower dosage than before as I didn't want to take too much with LO to consider, so am only taking 10mg. As far as I can work out and the GP agreed (as did my Obstetrician) Omeprazole is perfectly ok during pregnancy. I really hope that it is seeing as I have been taking it for so long!

Thanks wibblela. I'm on 1 x 20mg capsule a day. Took my first this morning. At 37 weeks, LO must be pretty much cooked by now and done a fair bit of googling which seems to suggest it's safe. Think you're a May mum-to-be too, hope you're well. Not long now!

I've been taking this as well - 20mg, it's the only thing that stops the awful acid reflux back up my windpipe. Don't worry, I've been taking it on and off for weeks!!

I'm on omeprazole as other meds make my heartburn unbearable. Was also on it for DD2 a couple of years ago, no problems and she is a lovely chilled little girl.

Had it for a few weeks about 32+ weeks for awful reflux/heartburn with breech DD - stopped it when she turned! Shes 3 weeks old and seems fine to me!
