What does morning sickness feel like?

Sorry for stupidity of question, sure it's supposed to be obvious!!

This would be my first baby, although I've had a mmc before (at 10 weeks). I recall feeling a little bit queasy occasionally with that, but nothing more.

I'm now second time around and am 6 weeks 5 days. For the last week my whole digestive system has seemed dodgy (windy and diarrhea). I've been getting a lot of cramps too, which are a bit like period pains. Last night I was awake for a couple of hours with all my gut growling and making weird noises, and I felt pretty sick to be honest, although I didn't throw up.

It's not so bad now. If it wasn't for the handful of positive tests in my bedside table drawer, I'd assume I have a bug. Is it a bug, or is this morning sickness?

Sorry for ridiculous nature of the question, just not sure what normal pregnancy is supposed to be like!!

Cheers.

Don't think there is such a thing as "normal" when it comes to pregnancy EggsandBacon - people have wildly different experiences!

Does sound like you might have a bug though, if u have diarrhoea and gurgling tummy on top of nausea.

IME "morning sickness" feels like a really terrible hangover: nausea, vomitting, and splitting headache.

Congrats btw - hope you feel better soon!

The cramps may well be trot cramps, if you have diarrhoea. The digestive system does end up a bit messed up in the early stages. I have had both consitpation and diarrhoea with this pregnancy. I wake up with gurgling belly and nausea, this for me is because I am hungry. Have you tried a small snack to see if it settles.

If you are concerned about the diarrhoea you should contact your midwife. I just drank plenty of water and ate little and often.

My MS with this one is much more intense than with #1.

Congratulations

I thought mine was a bug, but I am more convinced now that it is a pregnancy related. As I flutuate between diarrhoea and constipation.

But you may well have a bug, see how you go.

emsyj · 26/04/2010 10:47

Yep, my MS was like a horrible hangover - the sort where you feel really nauseous and aren't sure whether eating will make you feel better or worse!

maduggar · 26/04/2010 10:51

My MS felt a lot like travel sickness rather than sickness from a bug.

bibbitybobbityhat · 26/04/2010 10:54

I'd say it feels more like motion sickness (deeply unpleasant and "queasy" and makes you very sensitive to smells) than the kind of severe aching nausea you get with a bug or food poisoning.

Habbibu · 26/04/2010 10:54

That sounds more like a bug - the travel nausea/hangover thing is more familiar to me.

Loubilou09 · 26/04/2010 11:42

I have exactly the same - wind, diarrhoea and gurgling stomach but also have quesiness and definate ms. I too have thought the wind, diarrhoea and gurgling stomach was a bug but I think it is all related to pregnancy.

Doodleydoo · 26/04/2010 11:46

My MS felt like a hangover with a bit of travel sickness built in, or when you are really hungry and you start to feel a bit queasy. Hence carbs usually helps out.
Re other bits, I think the hormones can have some serious effects on your digestive system (they can do nearing birth too I am told!), the cramping can be pretty normal (i.e do you keep running to knicker check?) as it is your uterus getting used to getting bigger so without any other bits happening it is all quite "normal" I think. Especially as you have had a mmc, so your uterus has done it before.

Don't worry too much because that isn't good for you, but it is worth booking in to see your dr just to make sure that it isn't a bug. A d&s bug can be a bit dodgy in early pregnancy.

I have all the symptoms you name, and it's all pregnancy with me.

(Diorrhoea stopped fairly early on, but everything else stayed).

I'm thirteen weeks now, and no sign of abating.

Maybe get checked out by your GP if your worried about an infection.

Do you have a high temperature? Shivering? Anything like that?

Booboobedoo · 26/04/2010 11:50

you're

EggsandBacon · 26/04/2010 12:17

Thanks guys. I'm just going to see how I get on this week - I don't feel ill (like, with a temperature or anything) so hopefully nothing bad. Fortunately the diarrhea has abated, but those cramps, jeez, I'm knicker checking every hour at the moment!!

Nice to know that others get weird digestive system things going on though, don't feel like a weirdo so much now!

Wish it wasn't all so scary, I'll be the happiest woman ever if this one works out.

Mine felt like awful travel sickness too. More as a nauseous headachey feeling that makes you sick, than a tummy ache/bug feeling.
