9 weeks and feel nothing! Should I be worried?

Hi,

I am 9 weeks+5 with first pregnancy. Really excited! Had a little scare at 5 weeks with some abdominal pain. Referred to hospital where I had an early transvaginal scan that showed a little cell in the uterine so doc said normal interuterine preg.

since then have felt really well. Aside from tender breasts, nothing else, no nausea or anything. Now I've got it into my head that I have got a mmc. Next scan is in 3 weeks. Don't know if I can wait that long! thinking of getting a private early scan. am I too paranoid? any advice?

Not everyone feels sick in early pregancy, so you can't use this as a measure.

Are you tired? This is quite a common symptom. Also, needing to go to the loo in the night.

Once you have seen a pregnancy on a scan, very little can go wrong. Most miscarriages are pregnancies that never took in the first place.

At 12 weeks, you should be able to hear a heart beat, and start to feel top of your uterus.

i go to the loo often (may be 6-7 times a day and at least twice at night). not very tired but feeling lazier than usual.

A non-pregant person doesn't need to go to the toilet in the night because their metabolism varies throughout the day.

When you are pregnant, your baby's metabolism is constant day and night, which passes on to you.

It is a very good sign, even if inconvenient.

i guess i am just worried about having a mmc which I heard may result in diminished symptoms sometimes.

If you are destined to have a miscarriage there is nothing you can do about it, so no point in worrying.

I had very few symptoms until i was about 10 weeks. Sore boobs and tired. that was it and im pregnant with twins so you would have thought twice as many. The sickness kicked in but even when it did it wasnt as bad as with my dd. All pregnancys are different.

Hate to disagree with some of you, but I had a scan at 6 weeks - saw heartbet and all was well, but had a mmc at 10 weeks, didn't find out until 12 week scan. I tested every week too - just to make sure I still was - I continued to have all symptoms right up until scan - so it's not always the case that if you see a heart beat, it will be fine..

I tested positive for 2 weeks after the miscarriage too (even when a scan showed empty womb)- so testing every week is pointless (I wish someone had told me this) as it takes so long for the hormone levels to drop...

Not being negative, just truthful.

Hi May12 (is that your birthday, same as mine!) I have been intensely nauseous and vomiting since week 5 (currently 11+4) so count yourself lucky you're not feeling awful. I know that a bit of nausea is a nice reassurance that everything is ok, but don't wish nausea on yourself! It's hell on earth.

I am also a worrier and had a miscarriage last summer, so at 7 weeks I opted for a private scan. Saw the little heartbeat and it's made the wait until the 12 week scan so much easier.

My advice to you, for that it's worth, is to try to relax until your scan, only 3 weeks to go. Or, if you can't stand the wait, just go for a private scan. It cost me £100 and was worth every penny.

I worried until the 13 week scan last time. This time (yesterday) I paid for a private scan. I agree that it was worth every penny. I might even go again at 10/11 weeks if it means that I can enjoy the first trimester!

I had no symptons except a slightly heightened sense of smell during first trimester with DD1 and have very minor things, mostly feeling tired, with DC2. No need to worry.

I have had no symptoms whatsoever so far (26 wks now) bar tiredness, really extreme at around 10, 11 wks.

Now I am just getting a really bad back...feel like an old lady!

I think I only stopped really worrying after the 13 wk scan, but even then I worried a bit until the 20 wk scan, and I guess a little until after 'viability' at 24 wks. Now I'm pretty calm, I know (as much as you ever can) that things are going as they should, and that docs would intervene were anything to happen.

Try not to worry, my midwife told me that morning sickness etc is all just a reaction to the preg hormones. You might react to them, you might not. Think yourself lucky! If you have more babies those pregnancies might be very different!

I had no early symptoms with either of mine, other than needing to pee more and being a bit more tired.

Even if you have an early scan now, it doesn't stop something happening between now and 12 weeks anyway, hard as that might be to accept.

6 weeks here and absolutely no symptoms! Feel a little lethargic though and thats it! I am taking it as a postive ... who wants to vomit all day!

Had my scan 2 days back and all's well

Disagree with MmeBlueberry about not needing to wee in the night if you're not pregnant! I always have to get up in the night, pregnant or not.

OP, don't worry about lack of symptoms - be grateful! It can be incredibly hard at this stage to 'feel' pregnant - it doesn't seem real. I know exactly where you're coming from! If you want some reassurance buy a batch of cheapo wee sticks and do one every morning (last time I was pregnant my MW was surprised I'd only done one test - apparently the average is 7 so there must be lots of people doing a lot more than 7!). Your uterus will 'pop' in a couple of weeks (you get a little bulge between your pubis and your belly button) which will help you feel like there's something there!

Totally disagree with Octaviapink - testing every day is TOTALLY pointless... Even when your baby's heart stops, the pregancy hormones keep going for weeks (hence why people have missed miscarriages).

I tested every week for first 12 weeks and it was positive every time, but I had a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks, found out at 12.

I tested every day for 2 weeks after I had an empty womb confirmed by scan because I wanted to start trying straight away, but had to wait until the test was coming back negative.

No symptoms is nothing to worry about - enjoy!

I think (please correct me if I'm wrong) that with many MMC, the placenta may still be pumping hormones into your body after things have stopped developing, so testing (or relying on symptoms, which can also continue) is pointless. My MMC at 12 weeks was proceeded by me feeling just the same as I had from the outset.

Conversely, my successful pregnancy with DS had hardly any symptoms for the first 12 weeks.

I think an earlier scan can be a good thing as long as it's not done too early - before 10 weeks, you're still in the period when mcs are most likely to occur.

Another scared pregnant person here. I am 7 +2. I think testing everyday is pointless to be honest. I miscarried last year and still had positive tests afterwards.

The darkness of a line is not an indication that the pregnancy is advancing.

I have no symptoms apart from a good sense of smell and blue veins across my breasts plus having to get up at night for a pee. I know that people are trying to be be helpful when they say not to worry and to be grateful for not having morning sickness but women are told repeatedly that morning sickness should happen and is a good sign so it's no wonder those of us without it worry, and will keep worrying. Even the mumsnet pregnancy page says nothing about those without morning sickness.

duelingfango I am so with you on your symptons and lack of sickness. I technically am 7+4 today and feel like I am in limbo land. Massive boobs, sense of smell driving me mad, peeing for England and absolutely no sickness.
My next scan is on the 5th and I just can't dare get my hopes.

Hormones will still be present for quite a while even if a mc has occured. In previous mc I have still tested positive several weeks afterwards. I know this but still keep doing tests, like some kind of clearblue junkie. But after 5mc I am not beating myself up too much on being completely insane

Hi all,
purple hibiscus here (previously May12) I wrote the post initially. since writing the post on friday I decided to go for a private scan which unfortunately showed an empty pregnancy sac. So looks like a mmc or more specifically a blighted ovum. problem is that they think it has happened very early and I am 9+ weeks now and the pregnancy sac hasn't been expelled and so my body still thinks i am pregnant. So I have to have a D&C on thursday. We were disappointed but I wasn't shocked I just KNEW something was wrong! I am scared of the procedure on thursday and just want it over with so I can being to try to think about what has transpired.

I know my experience is not reflective of others and I hope it doesn't cause any one else anxiety!

thanks for all your advice and support. it helps to share especially since DH and I haven't told any one about the pregnancy nor the miscarriage thus far. still not sure if it will make me feel better or worse to share with family to be honest.

So sorry purple. If it's any help at all, I had the same with my first pregnancy - a scan at 9 weeks showed that the pregnancy hadn't developed past 6 weeks. I had the D&C (they called it an ERPC) as well. It is a really hard time and I hope you get lots of support.

I used the miscarriage thread here really useful, it was good to know that it happens to lots of people.

Hi Purple,

Just wanted to let you know exactly the same thing happened to me, had a scare at about 8 weeks and then at 10.5 was getting worried that was feeling so well and shortly after started bleeding, I knew deep down it was going to happen, I just didn't feel pregnant any longer. I think its important we women listen to our instincts as they are so often right.

Good luck over the next few weeks, I had my mc five weeks ago and still bleeding so don't be alarmed if you go on bleeding for a long time, you may even have a break and then start bleeding again, unless its 20 days since you stopped bleeding then it can't be your period.

Good luck! Next time you are much less likely to have a mc.
