Just wondering from other peoples experiences how reliable they are?

The top line on my chart puts her birth weight around the 4.5kg/10lb 2oz range, but at the moment she is measuring above that line.

Kinda worried about trying to deliver a baby that could be that big.

I measured 10 weeks ahead at one point and they have me an extra scan (thought there might be an extra one hiding)- fluid was normal and only one baby who was average size so in my experience it is not reliable at all. HTH.

DS1 turned out to be 8lb 1oz and was long and skinny.

i was told at my 36 week growth scan that baby would be 10/11lbs and VERY long... they were right about the length, he was 58cms but only 8lb3oz.
Recently had a 34 week scan for this baby and was told it is very long and lean, length wise two weeks and 5 days ahead! So i guess we'll see!

With both bump was/is measuring big, first pregnancy at 38 weeks i was 46cms and with this at 30 weeks i was 36cm however i have evened out with this one, checked at 37 weeks and was measuring 38cms which is pretty good!

it's only an indication and scans even get it wrong so i wouldn't worry too much!

Someone on here I seem to remember reported that their consultant had said fh measurements were essentially 'witchcraft'! I also read a research paper a while back saying essentially the same thing. Certainly in my last pregnancy measurements varied by up to 4cm in a given week, depending on who was doing the measuring! I do wonder why they keep using it...

Don't know anything scientific but last Monday I measured 28cm at 25 weeks, measured again this morning (different midwife) and I was bang on 26cm at 26 weeks so make of that what you will
