ECV experiences

Hello, am 37 weeks & 3 days pregnant with DS. He is my 2nd baby. DD is 2.3 and was not breech.

Apparently this is fairly unusual in itself?

I had a scan last week that confirmed breech and that showed he is otherwise ok.

I am booked for an ECV at 38 weeks. Consultant will check position of cord to neck first etc but otherwise all set to go.

Have heard varying experiences. One friend of a friend found it so painful that she needed gas and air

Another friend said it was mildy uncomfortable.

It was unsuccessful for both of them. Apparently 50% success rate, which I think is rather low.

My other option is really a c-section next week or by week 39. My main worry with this is about my DD and how she will be affected by the fact that I wont be able to carry her etc after the birth. i think she is going to find it quite tough anyway because she is quite clingy at the moment and always demanding "Mummy up up up" even heavily pregnant.

I appreciate that if I need a c sec then I have no choice but am wondering if anyone so against ECV that they would recommend going straight for c-section without trying it?

My DH is not fully comfortable with the ECV idea.

Worst case scenario, it distresses DS and they end up doing c-section there and then. Although the midwife said that had only happened once in her experience in 15 years.
