Heart palpitations

Hi All,

I am 32 weeks pregnant and for the last 2 week I have been suffering from strange heart palpitations - so much so that it affects my breathing! Its like I am about to go on stange or being on a roller coaster! My heart booms in my chest, my breathing gets really shallow and if feels like my heart beat is irregular. I am seeing the doctor on WEdnesday so will mention it to her, but wondered if anyone else is experiencing the same?

It lasts for about 1-5 mins and is usually in the evenings.

Lizzie xx

do you feel panicky when it happens?

llareggub · 24/04/2010 16:58

I had this when I was pregnant.

The first time it happened I went into labour ward to be checked out on the advice of my midwife. I was monitored thoroughly and sent home.

I was given a 24 hour heart monitor the second time it happened but nothing was picked up. My GP was also unconcerned.

I was routinely sent for a cardio appointment after my DS was born and the consultant barely glanced at me.

In short, it was nothing, but it might be worth you ringing your midwife anyway just to be on the safe side. I remember it being a horrid feeling and it really worried me at the time but it was much worse when I got stressed about it. Try and do your breathing exercises and try and relax as much as possible.

its more likely ime to be a type of panick attack brought on in part by hormones.

I don't feel panicky before it happns, but does concern me a little when it actually happens.

What little there is on the internet suggests it is nothing to worry about but will see what doc says on Wednesday.

OMG! Can't believe the doc offered you something not safe!

Good to hear that it is 'normal' and nothing to worry about.

I get this when I am lying (or reclining) on my back, because the baby presses on the aorta. My MW also suggested I might be slightly anemic (therefore less oxygen in the blood) -- and lo and behold, my 28 week blood tests confirmed anemia. So I'm taking iron tablets and trying not to lie on my back, and it seems to work.

I have had these in the past and have had a few ECG's to find out what it is. For me it is just one of those things. I would say this would probably be the way the doctor may go. Just to reasure you an ECG will pick any problems. My problem stems from stress.

ihatethecold · 25/04/2010 13:32

i had this with all my babies, i was sent to have aheart scan which showed nothing, they checked my iron levels and it was low, i ended up on 3 tablets aday and that cured it..

I also had an ecg to rule anything serious out - mine turned out to be iron related too
