Strange clicking noise from my belly - 34 weeks

I feel a little silly about this, but there are strange clicking noises coming from my belly at intervals for the last few days. It's like someone is snapping their fingers or cracking a knuckle.It's definitely from my tummy. Baby is still very active thankfully which keeps me from stressing too much.

The morning after I first heard it (Wed) I was in the GPs and I mentioned it, but she laughed and said it was more likely my body, not the baby and said there was some tearing in my stomach muscle that it could maybe be attributed to. It had only happened twice at that stage so I was reassured, but since then it is several times a day. I obviously only hear it when it's quiet around me, so I've no idea how often it really is.

Anyone know what this is?

don't worry you are not alone! i had that when i was pregnant. at first i thought i was going mad but it really is a clicking noise - i can't remember the explanation for it but do a search on here cos there have been threads about it in the past

That's a relief, thanks camflower! Mine are loud enough that my husband can hear, so I knew I wasn't imagining it. There do seem to be lots of other threads on it so it must be quite common (I finally found the advanced search tool!). I was worried that the baby had broken a bone or was in distress in some way

I presume your little one when born didn't have strange creaky joints or anything!

I've had this twice in the past week - glad to know I'm not going mad!

My sister has been complaining of this - says it sounds like she has a baby dolphin in there.

I've been having this too - very relieved to hear it's common as was worrying about the little bones in there! It is definitely from the baby not me, I can tell it's not muscles or anything. But will stop worrying now....

when my baby is sucking her hand she can make clicking noises. Maybe baby is doing this inside you.
