6wk+3 and...ouch...

Pregnancy tests x 4 - c.40GBP

2 x grim John Lewis DD bras, that turned out to be the wrong size - 20GBP

3 x better-fitting M&S bras - 36GBP

Secret support M&S vests to wear in bed as boobs so tender - 20GBP

Taxi to Homerton for emergency scan - 12GBP

Pregnancy books for me and OH - 25GBP

Bloody hell, over 150 quid so far, I must get a grip. On the plus side, I've not spent anything on cigs or booze and I've got a refund for a course of gym classes that they won't let me do because I am pregnant.

(Sorry about writing GBP btw, no pound sign on my keyboard.)

You've certainly paid a lot for some things- before you get yourself into some serious debt, here are some suggestions for the next few months-

Ebay sell very cheap pregnancy tests for pence, not the price of a meal! (Obviously I know you won't be needing anymore but for future reference!)

Ebay sell very cheap bras/maternity wear!

Amazon sell very cheap books as do charity shops and car boot sales!

So Ebay and Amazon should be your mantra for the rest of your pregnancy!

Congratulations by the way!

£10 on pregnancy tests

£60 on maternity trousers

thats it I think. 19+6.

Nymphadora · 23/04/2010 20:00

Pg tests were all cheap eBay ones so about £5
bought majority of matenity wardrobe now (hopefully) £150 ish
books £15
bras £50ish from a few weeks of increasing a size a week, still need to replace them with decent ones now the growth has slowed.

Xavielli · 23/04/2010 20:02

£6 preg tests

£6 lovely maternity jeans from eBay

£2 long top from newlook.

Have saved alot of money also on not smoking, and my food shop has gone down a bit due to me only wanting to eat peperami and cheese.

You are all buying your pregnancy tests in the wrong shops. Are you buying super duper flashy ones that light up the result in neon? I got one for 79p from Home Bargains. In fact I got 2, just to make sure.

Nymphadora · 23/04/2010 20:11

Mine were £ 5 for a bag full...

Miffster · 23/04/2010 20:19

I got the Clearblue digital one, because I wasn't sure when I conceived - that was fifteen pounds, and the others were Boots own brand. I wasn't able to wait for them to be ordered over the internet - needed to know if was up duff asap because of going on holiday.

The bloody bras are the main expense.

7 x pregnancy tests (is this a record??) £35

Two lots of hospital car park charges £4

One early reassurance scan £75

Some non-maternity but bigger trousers for work £15

Multi-vits £6

Various things to stop me feeling sick: ginger beer, refreshers, fizzy water, fruit juice, boiled sweets. Plus all the food I've had to throw away as I've just gone off it for no reason, about £15

I think that's it so far! I'm 11 weeks.

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news girls but this is just the start - although this is my 2nd dc i am still shocked at the cost of things! I don't have the time to list it all but i am truly shocked at how much having a baby can cost! My hospital bag has been the biggest shock cost me a small fortune to get all the bits and pieces i "needed".

I'm 35 weeks and can only be grateful that i probably only have another 18 years of being poor!!!

I agree with the previous poster -ebay is great for lots of things and amazon too for the books.

Good luck and keep thinking do i / baby really need this - wish i had!!!!

I am 7 weeks and haven't bought anything yet.

My Mum bought us some books which was very nice of her. As for bras, I went to try some in M&S and hated them so didn't buy any! I know I am going to have to eventually as boobs are so painful.

TBH, I think I am too worried about jinxing things to actually buy anything....

fairy am on number 3 after a big gap (so starting from scratch) and spend all my time say 'wasn't that expensive last time'
