Pregnant and moving to Australia...

Just an enquiry at the moment. We are moving from UK to Australia at the end of the year. We are also wanting to try for a baby but I am worried about the implications of having a baby when we have not long arrived in Australia (if it happens at all).

Can anyone advise on this? Like have you moved to Oz whilst pregnant and if so, did you have to pay for private healthcare to have the baby there or are you covered by Medicare? Would you advise it?

Thanks so much for any advice on this one. We can't put off moving abroad much longer but we also can't put off TTC as we are getting older and it may not even happen.

Hi Mamas,

I know this is a thread from a long time ago, but desperate for help and can't seem to find anything other then then thread.

I will be moving from the UK to Queensland Austrialia when on 25 weeks pregnant. We will be on a 457 visa but hold a British passport. So my question is will I qualify for Medicare and will Medicare cover the costs of the birth of my baby. I'm aware that I will need to go public and have absolutely no problem with that. I had my first baby on NHS in the UK and sing their praises.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Xx

Hi @mamabear31
I am in the same position as you - moving to Oz - with around 6/8 weeks left of the pregnancy

What was the deal with the birth being covered on Medicare? I’m British and will be coming from the UK to Oz directly.
I hope all is well with you now - are you still there?
