Hi all,

anyone else have/had these problems that could ease my mind just a little?

Thank you xx

I don't have any experience of placenta praevia but have some experience of a short cervix. At my 21 week scan my cervix was measured at 2.6 cm, but by 28 weeks it was less than 10 mm (!) and the hospital were convinced that the baby would arrive very early... I'm now almost 39 weeks and there's no sign of my baby yet! So don't fret about that too much... I don't think it's necessarily a sign of anything going wrong imminently... in my experience anyway. Hope this helps a bit.

I have my cervix scanned to to having had a loop excision biopsy which is known to weaken and reduce the length of the cervix.
With my last pregnancy it was short but not worringly so, I was given steroids at 27 weeks for early lung development.

With this one I am due my first cervix scan within the next 2 weeks so don't know what to expect.

I do know they will put a stitch in the cervix if it is worringly short.

Hope everything is okay for you, if you have questions I am sure your mw will help you.

Hi nunnie, I hope all goes well for you im sure it will, they have mentioned the stitch before to me suppose i just need to stop thinking about it,

I have been told just to rest because of the placenta and the bleeding it can cause so i suppose my mind is just working overtime as i dont have much else to do other than think

Oh, I also had steriods at 28 weeks just in case.

I'm sure rest is the best thing - I started working from home at 32 weeks and have kept my movements pretty limited since then, but I never really had the feeling that the baby would really arrive early.

Seems to me that no one really knows what causes a short cervix (other than things like nunnie's experience) and whether it actually makes any different at all.

I forgot to say as well that I asked to be scanned again at 34 weeks and my cervix had got a little longer to 15 mm, so just because it has thinned, doesn't mean it will continue to thin!

Try not to worry, they are monitoring you which is a very good thing.

Hope you are doing as you're told and resting
