Hello everyone. I had a missed miscarriage 6 months ago. I found out yesterday I am pregnant again and despite having wanted this for months, I feel very down and certain things will go wrong again. I'm going to the doctor on Friday and was wondering will they give me an early scan because of what happened last time?

Well congratulations and I understand how you feel. I had a mm, DS, another mm, then DD. Each time, I got an early scan at 6-7 weeks but had to push for it both times.

Explain to your GP how you are feeling.

All the best.

It really depends on your GP/EPU. After my m/c the EPU said to phone them and they'd scan me when I was 8 weeks, but from threads on here I know not all offer this. If you don't get offered one can you afford a private scan to put your mind at ease?

Congrats on your new pregnancy and I hope it goes well.

Thanks for the replies. Think I will pay for a private one if I dont get one on the NHS, just to know one way or another. Thank you.

Hi Oz - it depends on your GP and your EPU - whereabouts in the country are you? You can actually just turn up to your EPU and explain, they are usually super nice. I did this (same situation!) - I got there half an hour before the unit opened, and the scanned me - in fact, they have a box to tick on the form to say you are there because you had a miscarriage last time and you need reassurance!! It was the norm for them, and they said to go back again two weeks after, they were totally understanding about it.

They will be really nice and you deserve reassurance after what happened last time. Try your EPU before going private. If it helps, the EPU in St Georges in Tooting, London, is staffed by angels!!

Thank you so much for that info eggs. I am in Glasgow btw. You dont happen to know how early they can do a scan do you? Im quite stressed as I have no symptoms at all. Right now really hoping I will wake up to terrible morning sickness. Thanks to everyone for your replies.

Hello

I have just got back from my reassurance scan now. I had a MMC last year and am now 8 weeks (and everything was fine, phew!)

My GP tried to book me in for a scan at 6 weeks, but after talking to my EPU (and MN!) I postponed it until 8 weeks. 6 weeks can be too early to see clearly enough for a positive scan. By 8 weeks it is possible to see a heartbeat

They did stress that a positive scan doesn't take away every risk of MC, but after having a MMC it certainly feels good to know everything is ok so far. The nice nurse also said she had 3 children and never had any PG symptoms, so try not to stress about that (easier said than done I know).

Congratulations and very best of luck.

That is one of my big fears Cookie that I will be scanned too early. But after seeing doctor today, we have arranged that I will have a blood test on Monday to check levels of pregnancy hormone. Then depending on how that goes, early scan.
Big congrats to you and I hope it all goes well.

As Cookie says and as you know yourself just don't go too early...Although I am 8 weeks from date of last period I am only about 6.5 weeks according to the sonographer. I went for an early scan (requested by my consultant) 8 days ago and all it managed to do was cause a week of anxiety as it was too early to see anything, I have spent hours trawling through websites trying to find other experiences of early scans where no heartbeat was visible and causing myself no end of worry only to find everything normal on a follow up scan yesterday and even that was a bit tricky and heart beat was find with an internal scan as belly scan still couldn't detect it! I know you want reassurance but the week of not knowing was worse for me that just relaxing in the knowledge that I had a positive pregnancy test! Good luck X

Yes you are right. I am not thinking about it anymore I have decided. I will just have to wait and see. Im going out tonight (will pretend to be on antibiotics to explain the no drinking) and will focus on keeping things normal. Thank you so much to everyone for taking the time to reply. And congrats and best wishes to you and your baby Loubillou.
