Stuffed up nose and sneezing?

Hello

I wondered if anyone else was suffering with this? I'm just about 12 weeks pregnant and ever since becoming pregnant have been sneezing constantly and have a stuffed up nose. I wake up sneezing and can sneeze up to 20 times in a row - the other morning I sneezed so much that I made my nose bleed.

I do think this is a pregnancy side effect - I remember having a bit of a stuffed up nose with my last two pgs, but nowhere near as bad as this - feels like really bad hayfever, but this started in February so it's not that.

Was wondering if anyone had any experience of this and whether there is anything I can take as I'm struggling with breathing properly, especially on a night. Have a feeling I won't be able to take anything as I think I've read things like pg women aren't allowed to take hayfever meds?

Thanks

Hi,
I have been sneezing lots, no where near as bad as you though! As you are past 12 weeks there is a nasal spray you can use it's an otrivine one and is completely safe during pregnancy I would just use it sparingly ie just before you go to bed it really clears your nose for a good few hours maybe get your blood pressure checked too? Hope this helps xx

Yes, I have this - so annoying, had it last time too, and had it for a long time after! Not as much sneezing as that but can not breathe through my nose half the time. I got some saline stuff that you sprayed up your nose - sea spray something - I need to go and look for it again. I bought it in a larger Boots, it doesn't seem to be in the smaller ones. It was the only natural thing that was recommended at the time. However, since then I have used this site for things:
www.100percentnature.co.uk/infodatabase/proddetail.php?prod=SINU

So I might look into what they have - really quick service and they are very helpful if you email them.

Yes, I have this too (11+3 pregnant). I saw my ENT doctor yesterday as I have had to have treatment for nasal polyps in the past. He warned me that being bunged up is fairly normal in pregnancy and advised saline sprays and rinsing with salt water: pinch of salt in a glass of warm water, sniff it up you nose and let every thing run out, can be very disgusting but also strangely satisfying. He also suggested a bit of tiger balm under the nose to help clear things up and I suppose that olbas oil on a hanky would do the same thing.

Hi,

Yes I have this too and had it even before I got a positive pregnancy test... Am 29 weeks now...
I'm afraid to say it is getting worse and worse and am unable to breathe through my nose at all + sneezing like mad and many nose bleeds. What a joy.
Anyway, I saw my consultant at 12 weeks apointment and mentionned it as I was not getting much sleep at night. he said some nasal sprays were ok but to use in moderation (Nasovex - Ok but not amazing, and a Vicks one - absolutely fab, clears my nose in 10 mins). So I only use it at night just before I go to bed and at least I have a good night sleep...
I suggest you see your doctor and ask what you can take. Good luck!

Thank you all so much - I wasn't sure if it was worth going to my doctor if he wasn't going to be able to prescribe anything, but will definitely talk to him now.

Will also have a look into the 100%nature website.

Sorry for saying this, but glad others have experienced this, as no-one has mentioned at all in any of the pregnancy symptoms threads I've read on various parenting websites - thought I couldn't be the only one

you could try a karvol vapour release plug in thinggy, it doesn't say you can't use it if your pregnant (use it with doors open maybe) we have had one going for my 2.5 year old when she is blocked up - might help you breathe better at night
