I know it'll probably be okay and I know I need to just relax and also what will be will be, but anyone else in early pregnancy and with high anxiety about whetehr it will be okay. We've tried for this for so long (over two years) and now I dare not get my hopes up but instead go to looseveral times an hour to check for blood etc. Also my symptoms come and go and this just worries me too. Anyone?

Hi, 17 weeks now and only just starting to relax. At least I thought so until I burst into lots of spontaneous tears before work this morning; still not 100% as to why. For the first 12 weeks I wouldn't wear any other colour knickers apart from pure white; after they'd been through the wash a few times I'd throw them out so I could make room in the drawer for more pure white ones so I could spot 'anything'. Obsessive but I know that a couple of my friends did similar things. Still get funny period cramps even now; some of them are quite sore, but the midwife just said that it's your ligaments stretching and there's nothing you can do about it, just sit it out as long as it's not sharp stabbbing pains in which case you'd go to A+E whether you were pg or not. My symptoms didn't tail off slowly either; they stopped really suddenly one day at about 10 weeks or so; I was actually squeezing my boobs into trying to goad them into being sore again. It scared the life out of me, but I went to the EPU and the scan showed it was all fine. Best thing to do is NOT to read the pregnancy books. They're your worst enemy, because you'll be looking up the mc section even though you've sworn you won't, and you'll be overanalysing everything and convincing yourself you've had a mmc/mc/something is horribly wrong. The majority of women go on to have healthy babies, successful births and happy children later on.
Feel better yellowflowers; you're so blessed. Remember that every day, your chances of mc are reduced until by 12 weeks they're about 1 or 2% xx

Amarilis it is so nice of you to respond and it sounds very reassuring...

DuelingFanjo fantastic news! Wasn't it the greatest to see the little tiny pumping heart in the middle of fuzzy scan? I cried and felt so ashamed of myself for crying but these days I cry for ANYTHING!! I was out of the scan and happy for 1 day but then started worrying. My mum says that worrying is a part of the pleasure and a motherhood instinct. Oh well....

Wish you ladies all the very best!!!

ClaireDeLoon · 29/04/2010 12:54

Amarilis interesting about a doppler - I didn't know they could work that early so great it is working so well for you

I poas'd today as I think I'm 5 weeks and it said 3+ weeks so that made me happy. DP thinks I'm a loon though obviously.

yellowflowers · 29/04/2010 13:47

thank you jazziejeff for your good wishes and good advice. Booking in and 12 week scan appt came in post yesterday along with leaflet which stated all the things that can go wrong and iscarriage rates!!!! Not helpful. Trying to relax though. Your knicker story made me laugh! Mine are purple today - oh no, I won't spot anything! (Though hopefully nothing to spot).

Hi Yellowflowers I was on the 'ridiculous symptoms' thread with you and now it seems I've followed you here! I only POAS yesterday and got a BFP. I'm still only on CD28 so there's every chance I could still come on and have another CP. I had one in January so I'm on edge waiting for the bad signs! I keep thinking, 'if I can just get to Saturday I'll feel better' but by the sounds of things the worrying definitely doesn't stop then!

Jazziejeff I'm doing exactly the same!! All white knickers for the past week! Even put a black pair on yesterday and had to go back and change them before I left the house! I'm inspecting my toilet tissue waaay too much too! We're losing it!

Just lifted a whiteboard in the office and my colleague (who knows) gave me a reprimanding look. Now I'm imagining all sorts of weird cramps and twinges! I've had light cramps for two weeks anyway so there's no difference! Just paranoid I hope! Surely it has to be fairly heavy lifting to cause any damage?

In fact I'm so paranoid that I had to throw away a full mug of Raspberry tea yesterday because I'd read an article about 'Raspberry leaf' tea bringing on contractions and got scared! It's not even the same tea! Ridiculous!

Good luck everyone, sending calming vibes your way!

yellowflowers · 29/04/2010 15:05

Congratulations parker23. You've come to the right place for worrying!

Amarilis Can you really hear heartbeat with a doppler? What kind of doppler? Where did you get it from and how much did you pay? Any suggestions for what kind is better? I like the idea of hearing my peanut's heartbeat every day!!!

DuelingFanjo · 29/04/2010 16:54

I am too scared to get a Doppler, How scary must it be if you can't find the heartbeat?!

yellowflowers · 29/04/2010 18:24

be careful what you wish for symptoms wise - there I was complaining about no symptoms. Sick as a dog yesterday and today and knackered too (two hour afternoon naps in each but I have had non work days - back to the office tomorrow). xx

Amarilis · 29/04/2010 19:22

I thought I was going mad when I heard it - , but got DH to check when he got home from work and he heard it too - Mine was an 'Angelsounds' one on Amazon, plus a big bottle of gel for £28..

I am going to use it until I have had my 12 weeks scan.. And then maybe stop when I can see myself getting bigger / feel baby moving..

You're not supposed to use it too often anyway, so only going to use it once a week... I had read on here that other mums had heard heartbeats from 9 weeks, so thought I would give it a whirl.. I took about 15 mins and it was practically in my bikini line, but it was there, sounding like galloping horses...

Best money ever spent.

So pleased you've all had positve news!

yellowflowers · 04/05/2010 10:21

Hi,

I had some bright red bleeding and a clot over the weekend so went to A&E and they sent us for another early scan. All was good though with heartbest and measuring exactly as many days as I was expecting it to be so very pleased. Bleeding has stopped and I just have to go back if it comes again and is heavy.

PJen · 04/05/2010 15:54

yellowflowers sorry to hear that you had bleading and happy to see that your bean is growing healthy! Gosh! I spent 3 hours in AE on bank holiday Monday too due to stabing sharp paoin! They sent me to do a scan this morning too and the peanut was happily growing and moving (honestly moving) around! I am 9+2 and the measurements this time were within the range too. They found a hemorhage in one of the ovaries, which explained the pain.

So glad that you are doing well. If you are over 8 weeks and they see a strong heart beat then the risk of mc goes down so fingers crossed for you and all of the mummies out there!

yellowflowers · 05/05/2010 12:29

Oh PJen poor you but wonderful news the little bean is okay. You must have been terrified.

Me and DH had big row last night - we made it up but I am worried now being stressed and shouting and crying did not help our little bean. This am I made dh rub my tummy and tell it we loved it and each other - I must be going mad!!

I think I am 8 weeks today. x

OP posts:
PJen · 05/05/2010 22:49

yellowflowers awww... you think you are going mad? I cried reading your post (the part about rubbing tummy and telling baby you love it)... I am so emotional and can't control my tears... So embaressing....

ClaireDeLoon · 10/05/2010 10:52

I'm feeling massively stressed and weepy about everything at the moment. And very pessimistic. I have started feeling sick and I find I'm really resentful of why I should have to feel so sick when it will all undoubtedly end in another mc. I'm struggling at work I just can't cope with the basics, everything makes me want to cry.

Sorry for such a me me me post I just had to get it out. I'm still only 6+4 and am torn between wanting a scan and not being able to face going so I haven't been to the doctors yet.

EggsandBacon · 10/05/2010 11:25

Claire, I've been like that, I keep feeling down as I believe I'll have a mc again and then I feel upset that I've felt ill for so long and still no baby.

A scan for reassurance might be good, if you could get one maybe next week then they should see a heartbeat. I had a scan at 7+2 and there was a heartbeat and although I'm still worried it did help a lot.

Although it doesn't help, it's normal to feel weepy and everything at this stage, another symptom of pregnancy - the hormones!! How about setting little targets, with a treat for doing them (I would do things like "Today I will eat 5 portions of fruit & veg", and then if I did it then I'd buy myself a trashy magazine or something). I know that sounds a bit weird, but it helped pass the days!!

Also - and I'm saying this for me as much as anyone else - the stats are on our side. The majority of pregnancies at this stage will lead to happy healthy babies. And there's no reason why we shouldn't be in the majority not the minority.

EggsandBacon · 10/05/2010 11:28

I realise that I just went into "problem solving" mode, what I should've said is - here is a big hug - and it's ok to feel the way you are feeling. ((((( )))))

xxxx

ClaireDeLoon · 10/05/2010 11:46

Thnaks eggsandbacon. I like your idea of little targets. A few weeks ago I said to DP that when I finished my current bottle of vitamins then it would be time for a scan and I noticed last night there were only 7 left.

Does anyone know with a reassurance scan at what point they will be able to say one way or another for definite rather than no hb but come back in 3 weeks and we'll check again?

I have something wrong with my uterus, the doctor who first identified it on a scan about non-pregnancies issues described it as bicornuate but then other sonographers have since alluded to a septum so I'm not entirely sure which of the two conditions it is but it just adds to the pessimism really.

yellowflowers · 10/05/2010 12:46

Hi Clairedeloon. Hope you are feeling better. No one said how stressful it would be did they? I thought it was meant to be a time of unmitigated joy! xxx

OP posts:
EggsandBacon · 10/05/2010 13:08

I was told that they can usually see the heartbeat by 6 and a half weeks. If you are 6+4 (and you are sure of your dates), they can probably see it now, but to be on the safe side (and avoid any unnecessary stress) perhaps wait one more week - when you are 7+4 you should definitely see one.

As guidance, I was 7+2 by my LMP when I went for a scan, the bean measured 7+0 and had a heartbeat, you could see it very clearly. I know it's not 100% guarantee after seeing a hb at that point, but it raises your chances considerably - to something like 90% success rate.

If you do decide to have a reassurance scan, I know the next week will be a long, long wait so take it easy on yourself!!

I can understand your feeling about being told you have a bicornate uterus, my friend was told similar (it was only picked up for her during pregnancy). I think she may have had extra check ups because of it, I'll have to check. Maybe it would be worth asking your GP or the EPU about it, getting some extra support/checks? Hope it is all ok though.

xxx

ClaireDeLoon · 10/05/2010 14:11

Thanks both.

I will see if I can go to the docs early next week and get DP to check his diary (he's self employed so we'll have to try to work around what he has booked job wise) and see what day we can manage for a scan next week. I've got a feeling from what he said yesterday that it may be a week on Friday is best by which time I'll be 8+1 so that would be OK from what you say. Downside to that is it is two days before my birthday oh happy days.

First pregnancy the BU hadn't been diagnosed and last time I didn't ask GP what it may involve as was already having problems with bleeding by then so it all felt a bit hopeless. If the scan shows a hb then I'll start to enquire about what the BU means practically. Of course if no hb then my gynae consultant said that after 3 mcs they may be able to refer me to a specialist in one of the london hospitals who may be able to correct it.

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 10/05/2010 14:31

Hi Claire hi all!
Hope you don't mind me lurking occasionally on your thread. Since duelling's CBD thread a while ago, I sometimes check in to see that you are all getting on OK. I'm so glad you are! I have also seen yellowflowers on the conception threads and am happy it's al lgoing well for you. I am pregnant too wit hmy first and due in November.

About the heartbeat issue: i just wanted to add that I believe having a "retroverted" (think this means "tilted") uterus also impacts on how soon you can see the heartbeat. There are stories here and online about cases where it just could not be detected until later due to this fact - leading to pain and heartache for everyone. It may not be relevant Claire, but I thought I would mention it in case it is... I think that in general, having a retroverted uterus makes no difference, so people are not even aware of it.

Good luck to you all!!

ClaireDeLoon · 10/05/2010 15:59

Thanks SSW - hope it is all going well for you. How many weeks are you now?

You're right my womb is also retroverted and they've always had to do an internal scan. Also I'm overweight and it's harder to see what is going on an overweight person than on a slim person for obvious reasons. But again I think they just get around this by doing an internal.

I've heard the same as you re retroverted making little difference to a healthy pregnancy - that the weight of the womb and it's occupant correct the retorversion as the pregnancy progresses?

I read on an app I'd downloaded for my iphone that my uterus is currently the size of a plum, which was way smaller than I expected.

EggsandBacon · 10/05/2010 16:10

I've got a retroverted uterus - 1 in 5 women do - it doesn't make a difference to the pregnancy as it all ends up the same. But I have heard that having an external scan can make it harder with a retroverted uterus to get the picture. I think it doesn't matter if it's internal though.

Claire, let us know if/when you're getting a scan, will be thinking of you xxx

Hi SSW!!
