Over the last few weeks have bought slices of vegetarian quiche from the local health food shop and eaten them cold for lunch. Didn't think anything of it until I was reading online this morning that you should avoid all pre cooked chilled meals when pregnant due to risk of listeria. Am now in a panic has have been feelig rough for the last 2 days, all achy, nauseaus and flu like. Any one else get told to avoid quiche??

no i eat alot of deli food and asked midwife. She said to just avoid the meats from deli counters. So im sure your fine, try not to worry, if you want reassurance call your midwife but im guessing youll be told the same as me xx

Go to the doctor and have a blood test to put your mind at rest.

It is almost certainly just a bug, but if you have the test then you will stop worrying and can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

thanks. I am sure is just a bug but have a tendancy to worry about things once I get the idea in my head and throughout this pregnancy have been worried about listeria. I dont eat any of the things they tell me to avoid, just never thought that quiche would be considered bad. If they say all pre prepared foods, doesnt that mean sandwiches too????

One website that I looked at listed all preprepared food, NHS direct said pates, soft cheeses etc.

If I were you I would get the blood test to set your mind at rest. If you do have listeria (which is incredibly doubtful) then it is just a case of taking antibiotics to protect the baby.

Then be as cautious as you feel comfortable with. If it is going to cause you distress and worry, I would avoid all preprepared food and stick to homemade sarnies.
