Evening all, 7 + 4 and have been ill this weekend. Glands are all up and swollen. Friday night had a temp of 39 all the way through til Saturday morning about 5 am when according to DP, I broke a sweat. Felt terrible all day Saturday, temp returned last night but was gone when I woke up. Tried to take as little as possible paracetamol wise and tried to keep cool (although felt like I was laying naked in the Arctic).

Ive been having mind cramping since Thursday and I was told by MW that it was just stretching etc but now I am more concerned. If I went to the GP - (dont know if I should, as it is a major hassle to get an appointment with them) would they refer me to EPAU, as Im worried some thing has happened to the baby and I dont want to get to 12 week scan to find out

hi im sorry ive not had experience in this but if your really worried i would definatly as to get referred.

i was so worried about something at 5 and half weeks i just went up to a+e and got a scan xxx

Im worried that my GP can seem a little dismissive, and I dont want to waste their time if there is no point / chance of getting an epau referal

HI There

I had a horrible flu when about 7 weeks and was worried sick, doc referred me for a scan straight away and everything was fine.

I know you can feel a bit 'i'm a pregnant nutter' with the doc, but don't - I'm so glad I went as it totally put my mind at rest.

hope everything is Ok

If you're still there OnlyWantsOne I would definitely go to the GP, and don't worry about wasting their time - you are pregnant and have been horribly unwell! Your baby is probably ok, but it's awful to be worrying. The GP can check you over, possibly even do blood tests or something to check what you've had, and refer for a scan. I know all GP's are different but my experience of GP's in pregnancy is that they take everything a bit more seriously cause you are pregnant - I hesitated to get checked cause I was worried about 'time-wasting' too - turned out I had a UTI and needed antibiotics - the GP said always always get checked if you're worried, and if nothing's wrong, never mind, better to get checked!
Good luck and hope you feel better.

Didnt even speak to GP - nurse phoned me and pretty much told me that the EPAU wouldnt accept a referal because ive had a virus, and that I may as just well wait for my 12 week scan.

That may well be the case, EPU's sometimes have a set of criteria for referral (usually bleeding and pain) but if your glands are still up the GP should see you anyway because you are still ill! Can't you book an emergency appt? Sorry you are getting so little help.

Incidentally, if you don't think you can stand the worry, you could arrange a private reassurance scan - in my local hospital I got one at 9 wks for £75. You probably won't get one today but you could certainly get one much much sooner than 12 weeks

OnlyWantsOne · 19/04/2010 10:13

Our local hospital dont offer them any more

I collapsed with an intestinal blockage and seriously high temperature at 7 weeks and just like you was really worried about the baby.

I booked a private scan for £75.00 and it was such a relief to see a little heartbeat flickering on the screen. She was absolutely fine and is now 15 months old and giving her brothers a run for their money.

If they won't see you at the EPAU and you can afford it, I would recommend booking a private scan. They were lovely and fitted me in really quickly when I told them why I wanted the scan. To be honest we couldn't afford it, but I would willingly have paid double to put my mind at rest.

Alternatively, could you call your doctors again and insist on speaking to a GP this time? If the EPAU won't see you, that doesn't necessarily mean that the GP can't refer you straight to ultrasound for a scan.

Hope you get some reassurance soon.
