Large Ovarian Cyst - should I be worried?

Hello all,

Just got home from a dating scan I booked privately - baby is fine, measuring 33mm and dated at 10 weeks + 1 day

However, the sonographer also detected an ovarian cyst which she said was much much larger than normal

Will get it checked when I have my first NHS scan (haven't met my midwife yet, have an appointment with her on Thursday) but I was wondering if anybody else had any experience of this? Cyst is measuring 6.3cm in diameter.

I had a large ovarian cyst detected on my first scan with DD. They kept an eye on it and it was not a problem/had disappeared (I can't remember which) by the later scans. Apparently, it is far from unusual and caused by (as far as I can remember) hormones in early pregnancy.

Usual advise applies - try not to worry, and don't google!

I had an 8cm cyst found when I was pregnant with dd, they monitored it throughout pregnancy and 6 weeks post labour on the final post labour scan it was gone, they recon it probably burst during labour.

I did get the option to have it remived, but due to being pregnant they would ahve just cut me open and took the whole ovary to save time. I opted against and consultant seemed quite happy with that.

Don't worry too much they will monitor you now.

JC - I have just had the same experience, private scan at 9 weeks showed cyst measuring 8x9cm. Have since seen GP with the report who said that it is nothing to worry about but will be monitored when I go for my NHS scan next week.
