Is it twins?

I am 10+2 and have been sick as a dog since week 5. Constant nausea, vomiting, headaches, exhaustion. I'm sure I'm not the only person experiencing this, but every one of my friends sailed through the first 12 weeks and I can't even get out of bed, I've been signed off work for 5 weeks. I'm wondering whether it means it MIGHT be twins (or maybe I'm just unlucky)!

I had a scan at 7 weeks and the sonographer detected one embryo and one heartbeat. But is it possible to miss twins in a scan this early?

Has anyone else had an early scan where twins were missed, and then picked up at a later scan? I would love to hear from you.

I don't know anyone who sailed through the first twelve weeks

sorry you are feeling so bad

i would think it was unlikely that they missed twins, more that it is just hitting you especially hard

hope you feel better soon

Hi
Sorry to hear you're feeling so rough. I had twins last year and the sickness from 6 - 16 weeks was horrendous.... so I completely sympathise. I also had a scan at 7 weeks and they picked up both babies so I doubt they would have missed one. However if you're being really sick, be careful as I ended up in hospital for a week with dehydration, so look after yourself and go to your GP if you're being sick several times a day. BTW I know lots of twin mums who weren't sick at all so I guess some people are just unlucky. Good luck.

I agree with other two posts. Some people suffer more than others and have no idea why!

Apart from one 'friend' who bragged that in her pregnancy she didn't have any MS ect in first 12 weeks - whilst I was about 13 weeks and still feeling very sick - don't know anyone who has sailed through either.

Hope you get lots of rest and TLC from your loved ones.

Thanks everyone (especially compo for your most constructive comment, that was very helpful). I didn't think it could be possible for a second embryo to be missed at 7 weeks, it's just that twins run in the family and I am over-thinking things! Fingers crossed the sickness will ease off in the next few weeks.

I felt exactly the same as you, just put mine down to being because I have a toddler as well and I am getting older (who said that? that's a secret!) As for twins I agree with other that it probably isn't that likely that they would miss twins on a 7 week scan, but I am no expert and don't know for sure.

Hope it starts to ease soon, I am 11+4 weeks and mine has eased for most of the day but the nausea has intensified late afternoon early evening which is annoying me now. Not feeling anywhere near as tired as I did. Headaches are still coming but not as often.

This is my fourth pregnancy, first three singletons and this one twins and I wasn't any more sick with this pregnancy than the others. In fact, my morning sickness stopped around 12 weeks this time, whereas it continued until 20-25 weeks with my others. I did notice I was a bit more tired though and I had a very noticable feeling of pressure in my lower abdomen, especially when I sat up in a chair.

Lots of women suspect they may be pregnant with twins when they aren't, but I had a feeling and i was. However, one of the things they are looking for on scans is more than one baby and although not impossible, it's unlikely they'd miss it I think.
