breech or not breech - can you tell?

I'm 34 weeks and saw my midwife today who reckons junior is breech. But my problem is that I don't really believe her!

She reckoned DD1 was also breech and I spent weeks either with my bum in the air in various uncomfortable positions or burning my foot with moxibustion candles only to go for a scan at 37 weeks and discover she just had a bony bum.

I'm sure the kicking feels the same and is always under my right rib, but now she's got me doubting it.

Anyway, my question is, if you've had a breech baby could you tell? Was the kicking/feel different or should I spend the next 3 weeks on all fours just in case?!

When my midwife thought my DS was breech I was sent for a scan to check where his head was, did she not offer you anyway to be sure?

I had the opposite problem with DD. The midwife told me at 34 weeks that her head was engaged. When I went into labour at 37 weeks they realised that her bum was engaged. Cue c-section...

So no, they can't always tell.

Hi pramdithering!

I had my homebirth assesment today, and mentioned to my midwife that I thought the baby had 'flipped' into a breech position as I was now feeling hiccoughs high up and the kicks had changed position!

Also, feeling a very hard mobile round shape under my ribs! She palpated and is sending me off for a scan next week to check, as it does appear to be breech!

This after my appointment last Friday when it was very much stated that head was 3/5ths engaged?

So,now faced with ECV and poss C-section! Will update and let you know what the outcome is, I am 36 weeks pregnant with DC3!

She told me to get my bum in the air and about the moxabustion thingy, but tbh I am kind of the opinion that it will flip of its own accord...........or not!

Just going to concentrate on enjoying the last few weeks of my pregnancy and take it as it comes.............hopefully not bum first!

Both of mine were breech until 36 weeks. I could tell as I had a hard lump under my ribcage. Both times I felt them turn and it was VERY uncomfortable. With DD2, midwife didn't believe me and thought she was still breech and sent me for scan. I was right but glad to be certain.

cinnamongreyhound she has said they'll send me for another scan at 37 weeks if she still thinks junior is breech in a couple of weeks.

Trouble is, she's now got me wondering if I should try and do something in the meantime. Mind you, I like your philosophy morethemerrier...maybe I should just take it as it comes!
