losing weight

9 weeks pregnant on Sunday and I have lost 4lbs. I can barely eat and when I do, I either can't keep it down or spent the rest of the day/night in discomfort. My diet is limited to dry toast and the odd kit kat.

I am seeing the mid wife next week, but I suppose I am just worried that the foetus isn't getting the nutrients it needs and won't grow properly. I am taking pregnacare vitamins everyday, but this 'morning' sickness is getting me down. I actually feel worse in the afternoon and evening.

I have even had to take the day off work today as I am exhausted and all over the place.

Daisystone, try not to worry. Your baby is still tiny and will take all they need from you, the only thing likely to suffer is you. I am 10 weeks with dc3 and have had bad sickness with all of them including weight loss. My previous 2dc were both bouncing babies weighing 9lb15 and 10lb7!

You are doing well if you are managing the vitamins, with my first 2 I couldn't even keep them down.

I have just been signed off work for a month with sickness. I don't know if this is possible for you but I have found that the only thing that helps is to rest, rest, rest.

Do take care of yourself, it can be really unpleasant. Perhaps seeing your GP might be wworth considering

It isn't much of a help to the way you feel at the moment - but the only person likely to suffer is you not the baby.
They are very selfish and will whip up every last nutrient in your body before they themselves suffer. You are doing well if you can keep taking the vitamins, and for the time being just try and eat as and when you can. The thing to watch out for is dehydration, this isn't so good for bubs due to something with the amniotic fluid needing to replenish itself.
I was admited to hospital with bad sickness and they weren't concerned about the weight I'd lost (about 9lbs at 13 weeks and my bmi was only 21 to start with)
My midwife also reassured me, and said many people don't put on any weight until 20 weeks plus.
just try and look after yourself, because even if baby isn't suffering you may well be feeling crap and dizzy!
i'd also advise going to see gp maybe? They can at least reassure you, best of luck

Echo what others have said, I had lost a stone by 15 wks last time round, it's v normal (although hideously miserable to go through).

Take the time off work you need and don't stress and feel guilty (I did a lot of stressing over time off and made the sickness 10x worse so totally counter-productive).

Also think you should go and see your GP to get checked for dehydration.

Lots of sympathy - it is crap I know!
