OK, I know this is a bit of a horrid topic but I'm getting to the end of my tether.

I am 14 weeks and suffering with horrid constipation. My own fault as I was on nights last week and always eat badly (ie no cereal, little fruit etc) because you eat at funny times etc. Anyway have since eaten a load of fibre and laxatives to little effect.

Now sorry to be blunt but it is there I just can't shift the damn thing (how I'll ever push a baby out I have no idea!!!) Was thinking a suppositry might help soften, ie attack from the other end. Are they safe in pregnancy does anyone know. Can I get over the counter as am too embarrassed to ask doctor and not seeing midwife for another 6 weeks and she is impossible to contact between times.

A spoon full of golden linseeds, soaked overnight in a little water, down it in one and follow with two glasses of water - it really does work!
Also found plenty of olive oil on salads helps and if you don't have a glucose tolerance problem, fresh melon for breakfast (I think it's the combo of fibre with lots of water)!
I have been suffering over the past few weeks (39 weeks now) and the linseeds have defo worked well, but make sure you are drinking plenty of water with the linseeds.

On the plus side you can practise your breathing techniques on the loo with constipation ! If you can just wait it out and breathe, rather than push and strain, it's meant to be very good practise - according to my slightly nuts pregnancy yoga teacher anyway......

Another vote for lactulose - easier to get down and keep down than real food Good luck!

Orange juice and prunes - the combination will work in no time.....
