hi , i am 33 weeks pregnant and have a growth scan next tuesday as my DD was 10lb.however when i saw my midwife this morning she measured me with the tape measure thing and said if anything the baby was measuring on the smaller side of normal, she said if i didn't have scan already booked she would have sent me for one to check baby was growing o.k now i am worried. Has anyone else had experience of been told baby is measuring small, how accurate is measuring by midwife with the tape measure ????

Well I was told at 40 weeks that I was measuring 34 weeks. DD popped out two days later at nearly 9 lbs

I dont think it is particularly accurate just a guide to send you for a scan if it seems a bit out. How did you carry with your DD - did you have a huge bump with her?

I measured small through out my pregnancy and went for 9 scans because they wanted to keep an eye on her. I got told at several stages that I didn't have enough fluid but it made itself back up and several times when they told me she was about 2 weeks behind in growth. I worried myself silly but it is good that they check because they can do something about it if they find she wasn't growing as she should. Anyway at full term she was 6lbs 10. She is quite petite but growing as she should. She is now 5 months and over 14lbs now. Try not to worry.

i was measuring small with tape measure at 35 weeks in first pregnancy, dr wanted me to go straight to hospital for emergency scan which i refused to do as i had a scan booked in at 36 weeks anyway, which showed baby was within normal parameters, although maybe slightly on smallish side.

DD weighed 7lbs 5oz at birth (40+2) which is apparently exactly average for a girl.

do not worry xxxx

hi, i have had 4 larger than average babies and this baby due in 2 weeks was measuring 5lb 11oz at 36+4 so average size just really unusual for me and h. the only thing i can put it down to is that i have not overindulged with food this time and have been very stressed this time.
i am trying not to worry to

I had numerous scans as I was measuring small, my community midwife always said she didn't understand the panic I am 5ft 10, and was a size 8 and it was most likely I was just carrying a small baby or hiding it very well.
My dd was 5lb 13oz and healthy. They have to be cautious I suppose, I wouldn't worry to much, my dd is still below "normal" weight wise but is above "normal" height.

I measured 34cms this morning, had a healthy 7lb13 baby boy this afternoon (4 days overdue)
