When do I STOP taking folic acid?

I am now 16 weeks.... do I still have to take folic acid? I know its vital for pre-pregnancy and the first trimester, but is it still needed now? Plus, I have read a couple of articles that suggest a link between asthma and taking folic acid beyond the first trimester... anyone else heard of this?

Thanks

You can usually stop at 12 weeks unless there's a special reason you need it longer.

I stopped after my booking appt, midwife said to do so.

yes I saw something that said there is an increased risk of something if you take it in the last trimester, but can't find it now or remember what the potential issue was!

I am twelve weeks and I'm just going to stop when the tablets run out. I was more concerned I only started taking them at 6 weeks, but all the advice I've heard is just for the 1st Trimester x

AAH, good to know...I've been taking approximately 5,000 mcg because I have MTHFR. I'm wondering if I can stop now at 14 weeks?

Off to research!

I stopped once I'd had my scan and all was ok, I hadn't heard about it causing asthma in the baby if you take it any later. It is added to somethings liek cereal and if you have a reasonable diet you are getting some anyway and it is supposed to be good for your heart. It is in pregnacare etc. which you can take throughout pregnancy so it must be relatively early research?
