Have my waters broken?

Hi,
I am 38 weeks pregnant tomorrow and i'm stressing that my waters might have partially broken?? I dont really know!
Sorry to be graphic but i've definately had increased discharge for the last few days to a week, so i started using panty liners. I woke up this morning feeling like i'd had a lot of discharge, some of it seemed normal but some of the pad was damp with a very slightly brownish colour. I assumed it was normal, maybe just the plug?? But now all day i've been thinking about it and i'm worried cos if it was my waters, shouldn't i be doing something about it?
Arrgghhhhh! Can anyone help please?

I had similar in my last pregnancy and it transpired it was my hind waters breaking and a bit of fluid leaking, noone was bothered about it except me but i was glad i had it checked it. if i was you i would call the midwife in the morning. In the event it is your main waters then you have 48 hrs before they start to worry about increased infection risks.

Hi, your plug usually looks like clear jelly or with little blood running through it.

If you wet and have brown fluid def give midwife a call to be certain.

One tip - bit gross - but smell the discharge, amniotic fluid has very little odour, but if it is urine, obviously that smells different (some women do leak a little in late pg) but do call you midwife, like Hevster says, if it is your waters, there is an increased risk of infection if they have broken.

OK thanks, i will call my midwife first thing in the morning. I've felt pretty normal all day so i don't think it is the start of my labour yet, perhaps that's just wishful thinking! But, i'd like to put my mind at rest so i'll call the midwife tomorrow.
I normally go to aqua-natal class but if it is my waters i think i have to avoid going into water becuase of risk of infection, so i'll try and get some advice before that.

Thanks for your help, it's such a worry.

def worth checking but increased discharge plus slight incontinence v common at the end of pregnancy. i agree worth speaking to midwife, but if it was your waters you'd know.

My waters broke but I didn't go into labour, I felt one sharp twinge thats all. No great gush, but a bit of a trickle when I was lying down - when I stood up, no water - baby head acted like a nice plug! I rang the midwife and they said to go into the hospital to get it checked - which mean sitting on an absorbent mat until I leaked a bit, then the midwife (or should it have been midhusband as it was a bloke) - who was with a trainee, explained that the way to test if its amniotic fluid is to smell it. (Hence my tip)
Good idea to skip the class until you know for sure.

I also got told about the "smell" and told it smells slightly like sperm and i was slighlty when the midwife smelt my knickers.

Just wanted to say thanks for all advice and tips. I spokt to the midwife and she doesn't think its anything to be concerned about so i've just carried on as normal. There's been nothing more so i think that's the end of that part of the drama! Maybe it was just wee!
