Stretch marks/Varicose veins - am I lucky or just counting my chickens?

Just wondering when people started to get stretch marks or varicose veins?

I'm 25 weeks and so far nothing at all - is this a good sign, or am I just being hopeful and will it all leap out on me in the next few weeks?

Not everyone gets them - I didn't.

I don't know anyone who got varicose veins but stretch marks seem a bit more common.

I didn't get stretch marks with either of my 2 pregnancies, but I had heard of people who did that said they came quite late in the day so I was still on the look out for them right up to the end.

I had also heard that they are genetic, so there is not much you can do to prevent them (I didn't bother with oil etc), though I would imagine that if you didn't gain loads and loads of weight that would help. I did get stretch marks on my hips and bum when I went through puberty, when I filled out quickly, so not sure why I was lucky enough to escape them through pregnancy.

I got my stretchmarks at about 39 weeks last time, just when I thought I'd got away with it

Got a varicose vein in my bits last time too. Haven't got that so far this time but getting a lovely bulgy blue one near my knee.

Don't count those chickens!!

PrivetDancer · 10/04/2010 21:57

I didn't get varicose veins, but my stretch marks didn't appear til about the last 2 weeks. You are definitely counting your chickens a bit prematurely, I'm afraid!

I'm 35wks and haven't got any yet although i'm preparing myself for the worst as my mum and sister were both riddled with stretch marks from the start also, my cousin got hers at 37wks. I guess there isn't any medical timeline for them to come and it's as they say, "every pregnancy is different" and it's more than likely down to your own body on when if ever they make an appearence my advice is use bio oil just in case

EmmaBemma · 11/04/2010 07:00

I didn't get any at all until 36 weeks with my first, I'm sorry to say! Briege, I don't think bio oil makes any difference, I used that too.

EmmaBemma · 11/04/2010 07:00

stretch-marks, that is, by the way. I didn't get any varicose veins last time and am hoping not to this time.

DinahRod · 11/04/2010 08:24

No stretch marks or linea nigra but definitely varicose veins, gah. 25 weeks is a bit early to counting those chickens but some women just don't get them. Friend also was back in her size 10 skinnies straight away just glowing with health

LadyBiscuit · 11/04/2010 08:31

I didn't get varicose veins but I was another who only got stretchmarks in the last 2-3 weeks I'm afraid. After 3 years of no babies they have faded but I have been left with a horribly crepey tummy where they were

tobago04 · 11/04/2010 08:45

I didn't get any stretch marks with dd1 but with dd2 i did, but they weren't there until after i gave birth
I just think i all depends on how big you get,my mum didn't get any, also mine did fade and you can hardly see them,I'm 24 wks pregnant with no.3 so just waiting to see what happens this time

MumNWLondon · 11/04/2010 16:20

sorry 25 weeks is v early. most likely to get (stretchmarks) in last couple of weeks - I just got first one at 38 weeks.

Anifersgirl · 12/04/2010 12:56

I had a feeling I was being prematurely positive, but hey, on the bright side, it means I should be able to happily wear my bikini when I'm on hols in three weeks time!

Thanks everyone.

Also got my stretch marks in last 2 weeks. But they had faded to white within 6 months. Also have that horrid crepey tummy though!
