Having number two naturally after tearing first time??

Hello ladies. I'm wondering if any of you might have had experience of this before. This is my 2nd baby and I'm at 26 weeks. Our DS is 4 so a bit of an age gap. I had a wonderful birth (in the water) with him but did tear towards the end. They never told me as to what degree but I did have some stitches and no problems afterwards. However, this time around I'm keen to do it naturally again but I can feel a lot of pressure in that region and am wondering if this could be because of scar tissue? Or is it just carrying number two - do any of yo have this? Has anyone given birth normally having torn the first time around? Thanks so much x

Had 2nd degree tear and lots of stitches with DD (7 5) and no tear with DS 2.5 years later (7 14).

Had 2nd degree tear with dd and gave birth absolutely fine to ds 4 years later - still tore again but had no issues after either birth. Good luck

I had a tear with dc1 and still feel bit tender over the scar area. I went on to have dc2 and dc3 by natural deliveries and no tears.

I had a susbtantial tear with DS1 - it was like crochet getting stitched up! - but only a graze with DC2.

I was very anxious about tearing and was convinved that I would 'hold back' subconciously at the pushing stage...I didn't.

All the best.

I had an episiotomy with DS1 and tore - 15 months later had DD and tore along my episiotomy scar - but she emerged face up and was very fast so the MW thought that was the problem - in fact my recovery from that was much easier than the first time round and had no subsequent problems at all. 3 years later had DS2 10 mins after arriving at the delivery suite door - had a tiny tear but then all of them have been big (9lbs 3, 8lbs 8 and 8lbs 10) - and am planning on having DC4 in 3 weeks time completely naturally.

HTH to reassure you a bit!!

Hi,
I had an episiotomy with DD and tore badly, needing stitches inside and out, she was 7lb15.
2 years later had DS who was 8lb11 and had barely a scratch!
I was worried about this too, I rubbed almond oil on my perineum from 36 weeks onwards, I've no idea if it helped but I didn't tear so it may have done the trick!
Now pg with dc3, and will try this again! Good luck x

HI, I had DS1 after a 12 hr labour with 2nd degree tear- stitches very painful for a while. 3 yrs later I had DS2 with no stitches or grazes, what a difference it makes having no stitches! Now im preg with my 3rd & have my fingers crossed for the same delivery as DS2- recovery time was much faster!
Good luck im sure your be fine

i had a second degree tear and lots of stitches, in fact, i was in theatre for 40 mins after he was born while they patched me up.

had 2 more, both naturally, both bigger babies. no tears at all

I had quite a big 2nd degree tear with no1, masses of stitching, and a lot of problems afterwards. Had to be restitched when dc1 was 8m, and had constant discomfort and often pain until I gave birth to dc2.

Tore again with dc2, again a 2nd deg but not as bad. Tore along the scar of the first tear. This time everything healed properly and all the pain issues that remained from no1's birth disappeared completely.

With dc3 I didn't tear. Just a little graze, no need for stitches and healed so fast I finally understood how it was possible for a woman to be pregnant again by the time of her 6w pn check.

All the babies were big, but dc3 was 11lb, and still I did not tear.

I think the position in which you give birth can have quite a lot of influence on whether/how much you tear. With dc1 and dc2 I was lying on a bed, pushing actively. With dc3 I was upright, and trying to remain as relaxed as possible. I did not push him out, he just slipped out gently.
