hello all,

I'd really appreciate some advice. My period is due in just over a week, but I've been getting very odd crampy pains for 4 days. Started around/just after ovulation but definately different to ovulation/period pain. I also took nurofen which always kills period pain in its tracks, but didn't help massively.

I had a mc last year and it reminds me a little of the odd pain I experienced then (like excercise makes it worse and when experiencing cramps it's not comforable to move/walk quickly). I've also noticed in the past couple of days getting very uncomfortable when I need the loo - like I have to go as something is pressing on my bladder (never had that last time..but I know things can be different).

Thing is, it's so early, I don't know if it's possible to feel these things in a 'normal' pregnancy. Could something be wrong (like an ectopic) or has anyone else felt anything similar? Any advice would be really welcome.

Last time I was pregnant before my mc I felt ill over a week before my period was due with tiredness/oddness with smell/dizzy/feeling sick, and then by about week 4/5 I got similar cramping pain for a few days, so maybe I'm quite sensitive to everything...but can you feel this much literally straight after what must have been fertilisation??

thank you

hi angels1

Just from personel experience im now 13 +5 and I knew i was pregnant from about a week before my period was due because of the cramps and i suddenly couldnt stand the smell of cigarette smoke even though i was a smoker. So i would say you can tell from as early as you are describing..But unfortunatly there is nothing you can really do apart from wait until your period is due and then take a test as a test taken now would probably come up negative anyway. I know thats probably not much help but just wanted to let u know you can get symptoms very early
i hope all goes well for you

xx

Hi angel, I'm in a very similar position. I mc'd in may last year and lost at 6 weeks, that time I was horribley nauseous at 11 pm every night and had really sore nipples. I'm in my two week wait and am testing next Friday and have been having exactly what you're describing- when I go to the loo I feel like theirrs a weight on my bladder and I'm not quite finished properly if you see what I mean? Also I've been have pains- twinges when I have been rushing and particularly I I lift heavy things like shopping bags etc. I definitly had the twiinges for a few days last time u was pg too. I'm just worried that if I were pregnant surely I would be nauseous and sore boobs? How are you feeling now? When are you testing? Good luck hun, very sorry to hear if your mc.

Hi Angel,

So sorry you had an mc

This is my personal experience with this pregnancy; had bloods taken at 7dpo to detect pcos, at 8dpo was lying on the sofa feeling sick, tired and just hormonal as hell, 9dpo had phone call from my gp asking me to do an hpt and bing! up came the line.

The problem with knowing so early is you first have to get through that last week until your period is due and secondly I'm nearly 29 weeks and have now officially been pregnant forever!

So I think it's perfectly possible to have almost instant symptoms.

Best of luck, hope you're not waiting long for your bfp now.

hi

thank you all for your comments, it's been very helpful. I'm currently taking the attitude that I am likely to be pregnant, but I hear that chances are most pregnancies fizzle out before the period is due...so chances are that's what will happen with me...so I'm hopeing but not expecting good news in a week or so, especially after the trauma of mc - all that excitement and then upset.

Dinkytinky - I'm the same, get an odd feeling if I rush about or lift heavy things (which i had last time b4 mc) can't explain it other than it just feels wrong, like my body is trying to stop me from doing it. Aerobics was quite painful last week so I've had to stop till the cramp goes away. please let me know how you go, I'll be interested to hear what happens and good luck I think maybe we are more on edge/anxious after a mc.

I'm due on about tuesday week, so too early to take test, but if I start feeling really hormonal I might try next week end.

One other thing... angels1 - if you do think that you are pregnant - don't take any nurofen. You can take paracetamol and that's it.
Best of luck!

I know what you mean angels, I will let you know Thursday, best of luck xxx

angels1 · 11/04/2010 20:14

I know I'm a terrible person for taking nurofen...and I feel even worse now as I took a prescription medication earlier as a one off that I probably shouldn't if I'm pregnant. I will stick to paracetamol from now on, it's just that not being sure, it could all be for nothing, and surely lots of people take lots more medicine before they find out (that's how I'm trying to rationalise my badness anyhow).

Have to admit, the cramping has improved a bit in the last couple of days, not sure if that's a good sign or not :/

Yarr - true. I didn't want to freak you out or anything - it's just hard to tell on here how much people know - only really because of my own experience! I didn't know anything!
Glad the cramping has improved
