6+2 too early for scan?

Hi

Just been to doctors to tell them I'm pregnant again after a MMC. I thought I would be booked in for a reassurance scan at about 8 weeks plus, but I have been booked in for tomorrow.

Is this too early? I've read lots about people having problems where things can't be seen clearly, and having a week of worry until they go for another scan.

I am thinking about phoning the EPU and asking for the scan to be put back a couple of weeks. What do you think?

i think it is early , heartbeat is usually visible more around 7 + weeks.. i presume if you go tomorrow and nothing much can be seen you will be invited back anyway for another scan.. i would ask the EPU their opinion and see what they recommend.. hope all is well for you

Forgot to say - at my last scans they told me my I had a tilted uterus - am I right in thinking this can make things harder to see early on?

I had a MMC and was offered a reassurance scan at about 6 weeks. I actually asked for it to be moved back until about 8 weeks (as I have a long cycle) and all was fine, was dated at 7+3 and saw heartbeat. I also have a tilted uterus and at 7+ weeks they really had to push down hard to find the baby. It's up to you but I knew that I'd feel most reassured when I could definitely see the heartbeat.

EPU's don't like to do scans before 6 weeks as there is nothing to see, so dates have to be pretty spot on if you go at 6 weeks, as if you're a few days out with dates then there may well just be a sack.

I went with dd because I had pain and they wanted to be sure it wasn't ectopic, I was 5 weeks, they did tell me before the scan, there would be nothing to see, but they were only doing scan to make sure the sack was there and it wasn't ectopic. Had the scan and there was only a sack, went back a week later and there was heartbeat, so by dates I would have been just 6 weeks at the second scan. At the first scan, they found a large cyst on my ovary so at least I knew what the pain was, and it eased the worry slightly.

So it depends on your dates really, and if it is too early they will make an appointment for a later date.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'm going to ask them to put it back - I don't think I could take the stress of waiting for a week or two if it isn't clear, and I am determined to stay positive!

Hello

I had a bleed in Nov 2008 and had a scan and saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks.. Sadly, I carried through to my 12 week scan, but was told baby had died at 10 weeks (missed miscarriage).

It has taken 14 long old months, but I am now pregnant again (6 weeks) but I have had brown sticky discharge for a whole week, as well as mild cramping and a big reduction in breat soreness.. I have also had my Beta HCG tested, and between Monday and Wednesday this week, my levels rose, but didn't double as they are supposed to in 48 hours..

Tomorrow I go for another Beta HCG test, and will find out tomorrow afternoon if the bean has stopped growing.. I will then have a scan on Tuesday and if it's all over, I wil opt to have a D&C..

The constant worry is really upsetting me..

I really hope it all works out well for you..

Hi there,

I had a (internal) scan following a suspected ectopic pregnancy at 5 weeks. As other people have mentioned, they won't be able to see the heartbeat this early and will probably call you back at about 8 weeks (as they did with me) but the early scan was certainly reassuring - if only to know that everything was as it should be at that stage. Good luck.
