Period pains in late pregnancy?

I just need some reassurance really. For the past 12 hours I have had a dull background crampy pain. I am 38 weeks tomorrow with my first baby. I've had loads of Braxton hicks over the past few weeks, mainly at night. The worse episode was on Sunday when I barely slept. Flicking through my hospital note yesterday, I read something that said Braxton Hicks were meant to be painless??
Has anyone else has the same experience?

Hi Fifiolle. Sounds completely normal to me! I had loads of nagging periody style cramps in the last couple of weeks of my pregnancy and it can be jolly frustrating! Just relax in the knowledge that your body is simply getting ready for the big day My first post so I hope it helps!

i have this too - plus whole run of painfulish BH yesterday also am 38 weeks. Normal - although if any bleeding contact your hospital/midwife.

Thank you! I'm seeing the midwife later on so will double check with her too. I've sailed through so far, so little things like this get me worried!

It could be the start of early labour for you, as that is what most women say early contractions feel like!

Could kick off into something or just rumble on for a while!

Good Luck

Yes, it could be early cervical softening. Good luck!

Sounds like how my labour started at 37 weeks. Have you got your hospital bag packed just in case? Good luck

Yikes! This was what I was worried about. We've got my dad's 60th this weekend in Cardiff and I'm working next Friday. Will have serious words with the baby!

My BH hurt over the last two weeks of pregnancy #2 and then I had period type pains which came and went at regular intervals, which came more regularly and more intensely until DD2 was born. I found that a shower/bath always made things settle down - until that last day, of course, when the shower just helped but the contractions didn't dissipate. Good luck!

I had my first dd at 35 weeks so labour pains are a bit different when this early apparently, but i had a back ache all day and when i went to the maternity unit to be checked i was actually 3cm dilated! dont want to worry you ar get you too excited but dont pass the pains off if they gat any worse. good luck XX

I had this all night last night (I'm 38 wks today) and I was convinced it was the start of labour, as my previous two started this way. Unfortunatly not, I'm still here at work! I also had really strong painful contractions that lasted for an hour yesterday afternoon, and then stopped. I hope this doesn't continue for the next two weeks
