Nighttime toilet trips, 31 weeks

Hello all,

Quick question for you all, what is a 'normal' amount of trips to the toilet during the night at this stage? In the first trimester I occasionally woke up once during the night, but in the last week this has increased to 3-5 trips. Under normal circumstances I'd think kidney infection, but I'm presuming it's a pregnancy thing?

I do drink a lot of water - I'm thirsty all the time at the moment, but I try to limit how much I drink after 8.

I've noticed as well a sharp pain (as in sudden, localised, not like a cramp but not extremely sore) in what feels like my bladder from time to time, and I'm assuming again that it's the baby shifting position and something hitting my bladder. After getting this I feel like I need to go urgently, but sometimes this will ease off (presumably as the baby shifts again) and I can wait an hour.

I had a GP visit 2 weeks ago, but he didn't do a urine test. I didn't mention it as it's a recent thing.

My husband suggested a visit to the cinema tonight, and all I can think of is the number of times I'll need to go to the toilet and really don't want to go.

So normal pregnancy thing or something to mention to GP?
Thanks

Might want to mention it, but tbh I was awake every hour and a quarter during the night by the later stages of both my pregnancies. i actually got more sleep once baby was born as they both went for longer than 75mins between feeds.
Hated later sttages of pregnancy for sleeping.
You have my sympathy

I'm 28 weeks and had to go about 10 times in one night earlier this week! Usually I go about 3-5 times as well I'd say.

I'm nearly 34 weeks and usually go 2 times during the night.

Trillian42 I've had similar bladder pain on and off for the last three weeks, ever since I started getting regular braxton hicks. I initially thought I had a bladder infection and drank lots of cranberry juice which didn't help ease the pain. I've since had a urine test at antenatal app. and am fine.

Midwife said it's due to how the baby is lying and to switch position. I feel the pain the most when I'm on my back and move onto my left side with a pillow between my knees and it passes. I also try to make sure that my bladder is completely empty before bed. It usually takes me about 3 goes and that also helps with the pressure.

Good luck.

I am 37 weeks - and 3-4 times per night common - perhaps less if I am very tired and haven't drunk in the evening.

I agree about making sure bladder empty before bed - I go once before I brush teeth, once when I'm about to get into bed and once about 20 mins later.

Thanks everyone, that helps a lot.

If only we lived in a different house! In a 2 up, 2 down with a downstairs bathroom, so it's a bit of a pain. Plus, my poor husband! He's waking up everytime I go, so he's going to be as sleep deprived as I am.

I have to say, the support on Mumsnet is excellent

If any consolation, I'm peeing six times a night. I'm 36 weeks and have given up on any hope of a decent night of sleep - such a bugger that I'll start off motherhood knackered!

sunshiney · 02/04/2010 17:02

Hi I am also 31 weeks and go to the loo three times a night on average.
Also get the weird sudden urge to wee when the baby squashes my bladder! Not to mention needing to wee when laughing, coughing....etc!!! Sick of the sight of the toilet!

Often I wake up in the middle of the night really uncomfortable and fed with the whole business!

pipinmybelly · 02/04/2010 18:44

im only 23 weeks and i was up 3 times last night busting for a wee each time...i had drunk quite a lot of water but still...i also live in a 2 up 2 down with a downstairs bathroom and hate getting out of bed to have to go all the way downstairs...might start taking a bucket to bed!!

I,m 36wks now and up every hour and a half. Absolutley knackered with it and desperados for a decent nights sleep but that's not gonna happen for a while I guess
