Pregnant again, son is 16 weeks old.

Hi ladies, the title says it all. When my next one is due my baby boy will be 51 weeks old. We are perfectly happy with it but I was wondering if anyone else had experience of babies this close and how have you found it?

Hey 4inabed. Mine aren't as close as yours - they are 14 months apart. But I do have two friends whose LOs are 12 months apart and they love it. Life was certainly never dull when they were babies and it could be a bit thankless/relentless at times, but then so is all motherhood. There is no such thing as a perfect age gap anyway. I had three in three years, now I'm having another after a 6 year gap. It will be a different set of challenges, that's all. Best of luck .

How do you feel?

A close friend has 11 months between her oldest two, then 14 mths between no/2 and no.3. It was hard work in the first few years, but they are 6, 5 and 4 now and great little friends - very close to each other, and really no more hassle than children with a slightly bigger age gap would be

A friend of the family has her 2nd born on the 1st ones birthday and number three is due on their birthdays in August!!!
She is so excited!!

54 weeks between mine. It was horrendously hard to begin with (zero family help and an ill dh) but it's a breeze now that they are 5 and 4!

Thanks ladies, I'm totally happy about it, except I keep looking at my little boy and thinking it is a bit sad that it won't just be me and him anymore. (DH around at weekends but works long hours). Also I had an extremely traumatic birth from which my DS is still recovering and I am terrified of hospitals as a result.

Congratulations!!

I had a bigger gap (15 months) and it's been my easiest gap (so far - number four due in 4 weeks!). I have a friend with an 11 month gap and another with a 13 month gap - both of them seem to have coped admirably and the children get on really well. Don't be sad for your son - you're giving him the wonderful present of a sibling .

I also had a difficult birth first time round - which is rather why I wanted a small gap - I thought if I waited, I wouldn't do it again. As it happened, my second was my easiest labour - DD was born within 20 mins of me getting to hospital (about 5am) and I was home by lunchtime (or very shortly afterwards) as I just didn't want to stay a second longer than I had to.

TBH I found that gap easier between my first two than I did the three year gap between DS1 and DD2.

I have 14 months between my two.

To be honest though I was lucky that DD1 was walking at 10 months so I didn't have to carry her everywhere.

I loved the small age gap.

Way to go! I have 2 friends - one with a year gap between her 2 and my friend is less than a year younger than her brother.

There's a year and 16 days between my sister and I. We weren't in the same school year because my birthday is in August and hers in September. To be honest, I don't know how Mum coped, but I presume it was a lot easier once we were both toddlers and out of nappies!

17 months between my eldest daughter and twin boys. Then a twelve year age gap between the twins and my daughter (due in July)

All sounds positive so far! Thank you ladies! I was shocked that the woman in Tesco commented when I bought the pregnancy test kit, I thought they'd be more discreet, but no I had to have an awkward conversation of "Having another one then? Already?" Ah well, there will be a few eyebrows raised I guess!

We have 5 children

DS 17 - DD 12 - DD 7 - DD 6 - DD 9wks

The easiest was the two girls with 14 months between them, I think its because you are still in baby mode.

My dh said we'll have one more - que very happy mummy and contraceptive pill being binned. I would definately like to have the next one close together, if we get lucky and it happens this month, I will have had a baby in Jan and dec of the same year!!!

I would just ignore anyones negative comments. Everyone we know just accepts that we'll have as many children as we want, although I an sick of saying that we are NOT trying for another boy we just wanted a another baby regardless of the sex.

A neighbour actually shouted to us the other day, did you get a boy then, no we said another girl, omg he said you're not gonna try again are you. You have no idea how much I wanted to shout F*&K OFF

There is one year, one month, and one week between me and my sister.. you are never without someone to play with. We fought like cats and dogs as we grew up, but she is my bestest bestest friend now. And, if new bubba is the same gender, you'll save a small fortune on hand-me-downs!

Get it all over and done with asap I say!

It happened to my aunt, she found out she was preg at 6 weeks post natal.... there is 10 months between her girls x

13 months between me and my brother, there were 4 of us under 4. I dont know how my mum coped but we all have the best memories of our childhood and are still very close. My SIL is the same age as her brother for almost a month of the year (irish twins!) and she is one of eight! Its funny because those of us having families in this generation all have small gaps as a result. The first year or two is not easy at all but not awful by any means. just tiring. Its so worth it. My two are like peas in a pod! Best of luck!

I have four DC and there are 50 weeks on the dot between my two youngest. I'm on my own (with no family either!) and it's been hard but immensely rewarding.

Many people assume the two youngest are twins and they even communicate in an intricate babble that no-one else understands!

Their closeness really is a joy to behold secret smiles, grubby chuckles and absolute empathy with each other. Bliss!

I totally understand your worries, I'm 22 weeks pregnant with DS1 my youngest will be 11 months old when this one arrives.

I'm more worried as it will be a C-section (for medical reasons) and I don't know how I'll manage if DD2 isn't walking yet

Has anyone got tips on what could be done to make life easier with two so close together?

DS was due 10 days before DD's 1st birthday. As it was he was early, so only 11 months between them!

It is hard to start off with, as I had 2 of them who couldn't walk, but just developed very strong arm muscles! Now they are nearly 3 and 4 and it's great. They play really well together because they are so close in age. Plus you get all of the 'baby stage' out of the way in one go!

Even though we didn't plan them to be this close, I definately wouldn't do it any differently. In fact we are due to have our 3rd in July, and I am more panicing about how I will cope with the 3 year gap!
