Im 37 weeks and my waters broke at 6.30am this morning. Rang midwife etc. No contractions, just bit of back ache and mild period pains. Feeling fine and well. Going to be induced 8am 2moz if still no contractions. I've been quite active today, been on 2 walks, done housework etc. Still no contractions. Baby been fairly quiet, not active as usual. Had my midwife appointment at 3pm today and everything normal and fine. Just have to wait. Anything I can do to bring on labour? E.g. hot curry? Would rather it happened all naturally (i.e. not be induced) if possible, but obviously things don't always go the way you want them to, lol!

ideas between now and tomorrow:

a) clary sage oil (or jasmine oil) - mix into base oil and massage or burn in burner (I bought this in boots)

b) homeopathy - Caulophyllum 200 - need to get from homeopathic pharmacy

c) pineapple / curry

d) long walks

e) nipple stimulation

Hi there, Same thing happened to me and I bounced and bounced on my birthing ball til I had to go in to be induced.

I started having mild contractions and back ache too, and by the time I got into hospital was already a couple of cm dilated, they gave me a pessary anyway and things got going really fast!

Id say any movement, walking around keeping active all really helps the baby press down on the cervix and help you dilate.
I was scared of being induced too but it was absolutely fine, just gave me the kick start I needed.
Best of luck with everything

Don't have a curry! Last thing you want is an upset tummy when you're in labour...

Squitten · 29/03/2010 18:25

I walked approx. 6 miles to the hospital and back when I was a week overdue and I went into labour that night...

Go to bed early and try and get a good sleep, you've a long day ahead of you tomorrow. All the best xx

Feeling fine and still no contractions, just a bit of back ache. I've been on more walks and had a bath. Ready for bed, time to get some sleep as i'm quite tired now with all of today's activity. I'm not nervous as such, just wondering why there are still no contractions despite being active. I'm at that stage where I just want things to happen! I want my baby in my arms! Thanks for the comments. I'll keep you posted!

sorry didn't reply. But was in labour! I tried everything but to no avail! The day after writing the post I was admitted into hospital and had a pessary inserted for 24 hours. That didn't really do anything either. Then I was taken to the delivery suite where I was placed on a drip (after an hour and half of trying to insert it into a vein, took 12 attempts!!!)
Once the drip was in, the contractions came immediately, very strong and quick. After an hour and half had gas and air but made me sick twice so stopped and continued with deep breathing. Eventually the contractions worsenend and went on epidural. However in hindsight I would have battled on cos half hour after epidural the head was there! 4 pushes and 5 mins later my beautiful daughter was born weighing 5lb 9oz. She is so tiny and gorgeous! A 6 hour labour, painful but hasn't put me off. I had it easy compared to some birth stories I've heard.
