Ectopic pg, i know its probably nothing but ...

I am two days late for AF, this is fine but i just wanted to know if its possible to have an ectopic pg without a positive pg test (Or have positive pg tests that turn negative)

I suspect i have had a chemical pg this cycle as last Monday and Tuesday i got 4 faint (but clear) positive htps. When i tested on the subsequent days they were negative so i guess it was just the start of something but it came to nothing (i cant think of why else i would get a positive pg test?)

Anyway the last time i tested was the day AF was due on Saturday and it was a resounding negative too. I just wondered if it was possible to get a negative result and still have an ectopic, I am not usually late and can only think that if i was pg and now am not that thats why AF hasnt come, i dont mind just am worrying a bit about the positives then negatives and now AF's lateness.

Just want AF to get here so i can crack on with next cycle and keep trying really, what do you think? I know i am probably being paranoid and AF will arrive shortly but i dont know anything about ectopics and if AF doesnt arrive wonder if i should see the GP just in case?

didnt want to leave this unanswered -- Im sure you would have said if you had, but any pain or bleeding?

Hiya, thanks for answering - no nothing like that, no pain and no bleeding but then it would probably be too early for that wouldnt it? - im only a couple of days late for AF.

Normally i wouldnt worry its just that i did have 4 positive pg tests this time last week and its odd that they went negative and now my periods late - thought with chemical pgs you just got your period as normal?

If you've had no pain or bleeding I wouldn't worry about it being ectopic.
An ectopic would still show as positive on a test.

If the tests are now definately negative, then I think your guess is right, that it just came to nothing. In this case you are likely to be late and get a heavier period eventually.

Ahh ok thats good then - i was pretty sure that ectopics show positive htps but i just thought i would ask as i am never usually late, i think its just a question of waiting a few days till AF comes, thank you.

I had an ectopic a couple of months ago, and yes, the test (well tests- I took a few) were positive even after the pain and bleeding started...

More information at www.ectopic.org.uk - but it doesn't sound as if you have one.

Thanks for that info Balham - i wasnt sure either way but it sounds like you would get positives so im a little relieved. I am sorry to hear about your ectopic though, hope you are a little better now, thanks again.

It doesn't sound like an ectopic, but keep an eye on things. If AF doesn't start soon (within a week or so) you should go see your GP and just get checked - most early miscarriages will pass spontaneously but not all do. If you start getting any pains or any unpleasant discharge go to your GP straight away.

Ok tangle will do, i mean this would have been a very very early miscarriage (before AF was due) so i will keep an eye out. Im sort of hoping that the reason AF is late is because its just a bit out of sorts at the positives and then negs. I had a miscarriage 2.5 years ago (baby died at 5/6 weeks) and it didnt pass till 11 weeks so i know that these things can sometimes take their time.
