TMI but swollen fanjo? is it 'normal'?

I didn't have this with DD so don't know if this is a common side effect of pg. I'm 23wks and have had a swollen fanjo for over 2 months now. It's uncomfortable to go to the toilet just cos of the pressure and if I even attempt sex it inflates til it feels bruised...and that's any kind of sex, not just penetration. Sorry about tmi but it's getting to me (and DH) and I wondered if it's just another of those things...
TIA

sounds like vulval varicosities (not sure of spelling) but basically varicose veins in vulva, not mentioned much but doesn't affect delievery and goes away quickly afterwards. Maybe mention it to midwife just so they know to be aware during birth. tis just another of those annoying things!

I am 24 weeks with DC3 and I'm feeling swollen down there quite a bit. Its on and off with me though. I also have very painful SPD so my whole pelvic area feels tender - adding swollen bits to the mix can make it pretty uncomfortable at times!

Its usually because of the extra blood flowing around though.

Mention it to your mw though just to make sure its not vulval varicose veins type things.

I'm sure I read somewhere about soaking a flannel in a witch hazel dilute can help calm area and ease swelling a bit. Might be worth a try

The thing about mentioning it is that she might want a look I know heaps of people saw it last time but I've recovered a semblance of dignity since then!

Oh god I have this as well and it is the most annoying things about this pregnancy.
I have had it since about 20 weeks and am reaching the end of my tolerance now at 37 weeks.
It's been off and on for me as well but is definitely getting more painful now - i'm living on about 3 hours sleep a night because of my swollen lady bits.
Sex - what's that???

blackcurrants · 26/03/2010 18:40

Oh gosh, you're not alone
I had to get a cervical smear last week ( @ 22weeks! lucky me!) and mentioned that I'd felt 'tenderness like a bruise' in the vulva for the last couple of weeks. Nice lady said she didn't see any varicose veins and it was probably just the increased pressure.
It's not worse at the end of the day that it is first thing in the morning (sodding painful/uncomfortable either time) so at least I know it's not walking around/sitting/standing for prolonged periods that's doing it.
I've had a lucky 2nd trimester in all other ways - bit of heartburn but otherwise feeling good. This part, though - UGH. It's miserable.

... and I can't believe I just posted about my ladybits on a public forum. Beginning of pregnancy related dementia?!

Lucky us...must just be a pregnancy thing then. My mum had 7 children and said she only had this for one of them.
Hope it clears up soon for all of us cos yeah, sex is out of the question and it's freaking uncomfortable!
