hi everyone

my post yesterday commented on some bleeding i had - this was found inconclusive this morning. i had an external and an internal scan and the bean only measured 4mm, for my dates it should be around 8mm and there was no heartbeat.

there was a good yolk sac and the lining was thick...they've said for me to go back after my hols for another scan...my dates are pretty much spot on as i used the clearblue fertility monitor and tested positive at 10dpo.

I obviously think that its all over, has anyone had any positive outcome from something like this? I've only read of MC - i had one last year as well but much earlier.

Thanks in advance

Sorry not to be the bearer of good news sweetheart- this happened to me last year. Brilliant looking sac, thick lining, the lot. Still was a mmc. I suppose the best thing to do is wait a couple of weeks, have a repeat scan and see. Advice though- stock up on horse painkillers just in case you mc naturally. It was very painful for me- deep breathing and a shower focussed on my tummy helped.

Good luck x x x

Hi busylady - I'm so very sorry for what you're going through. I want to tell you everything will be okay and that to be really true...but who knows right now? With all 4 of mc's, I kept hoping, even after I saw an empty sac or small measurements. But to be honest, I don't know what's worth - hoping or just knowing? I wish I had the answer. I'm just sorry.

Would love to be hopeful but if there is no heartbeat at 8.5 weeks and you are absolutely sure about dates, then it probably is a missed miscarriage. To be honest, I'm surprised they have suggested you come back for another scan; when I had this three years ago, I was immediately offered a D&C. If it's any help, I had two miscarriages in a row, but third time lucky. I hope everything works out OK, even if it is in the long run.xx

thanks girls - yes eejaykay, i'm at a loss why they haven't told me. I know my dates are right so am just consoling myself with the fact that its a MMC. the midwife said 'it's really early days and the cells are still multiplying' i was like, ermmmm, i'm nearly 9 weeks, its supposed to be an fetus!!

Hi busylady. Sorry you are going through this. Unfortunately if you are indeed sure of your dates I think it is most likely that a MMC has occured. The reason that you have been offered another scan and not been given a conclusive answer is that guidelines on this are extremely strict and if an embryo with no visible heartbeat measures less than 6mm then a rescan must be performed in 10-14 days time to confirm these findings (ie if the initial scan had shown ane embryo of 6mm or above then a rescan would not be necessary). Although this must be an absolutely agonising wait for you, the guidelines are this strict for good reason. (I am a sonographer BTW)

elizabethsmum - thanks for that, its all i needed to hear, and i thought it's just protocol that they have to follow.

i'm guessing you've not come across anyone who went on to have a viable pg after a similar story?

i don't even feel PG now anyway...just want to move on...
