Playing hockey when pregnant?

Hi there,
I think I'm about 6 weeks pregnant (somewhere between 4 and 9 anyway!) and i would really like to play hockey this weekend, however my husband thinks this is completely insane and I will kill the baby! Does anyone know whether this is sensible and whether its a risk to the baby if i get hit?

Thanks for any advice :-)

I recall someone asking this at an ante-natal class I went to. They suggested something less strenuous, especially in the first few weeks of pg.

Might not be a great idea at this stage.......

link here might be of help.

I think your hubby is probably right as the advice seems to be to avoid any sports where there is a risk of contact or being hit. Yes, I think if you actually got hit, there would be a risk. It's a bit different but I've stopped ice skating because of the risk of falling.

I think better safe than sorry but only you know how often you get bashed around when you play.

I used to referee juvenile football (boys 12-17 yo). When I found out I was pregnant I stopped as I got really worried that I/my baby would get hurt. Can't count how many times I clashed with a lad of 16, much taller and heavier then me!! I also got hit by the ball a couple of times. So I wasn't going to risk anything with our precious baby.
You can do so much more if you want to exercise.

Hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy
