I've always found that for the first 3mths or so of each pregnancy, I get cramping at around the time my period would have been due.

shonaspurtle · 21/03/2010 19:25

I had quite severe cramping and a small amount of bleeding at this stage.

All was well but when I went to the GP she referred me to the Early Pregnancy Unit for a scan.

I had menstrual cramps the whole way through my pregnancy, particularly in the beginning when the baby is implanting.

I remember that I hadn't even tested and had such bad menstrual pain that it woke me up from sleep. I thought that my period had arrived but it hadn't!

What your friend is experiencing sounds pretty normal but if she is really worried/has any bleeding accompanied by cramps then tell her to see a doctor.

Congratulations to your friend, hope she has a good pregnancy

Oh, that is of such comfort. I will be devastated if anything happens to her pregnancy.

Really surprised to see that many women experience these, I had no pain whatsoever, but terrible exhaustion.

She will be fine

I so loved being pregnant but it's such a worrying time isn't it? You can't see what's going on inside there and you just want the baby out and safe where you can see it. Then you don't stop worrying when they're here...

I had this - its the uterus expanding... but if any bleeding should contain EPU.

ooosabeauta · 21/03/2010 19:46

I had this too, lots of panic but two good scans since. Is prob uterus expanding, as MumNW says, or can also be the kind of pain you get from strange bowel movements due to hormones changing so much at this time, which feel menstrual, bit like if you get upset tummy during periods. Sorry if TMI. Good luck and hope it goes well x

I got lots of cramps and spent the whole time worrying about them until I was past 14wks or so. We'd had 2 mcs so had an early scan which made us feel better for all of about a day. It's stressful, but not the end of the world. Good luck to her.

cinnamongreyhound · 21/03/2010 20:55

I had it both times with my pregnancies which is just as mumNWLondon said, your uterus expanding.

I was terrified the first time but if you read around on the web you can find lots of info about it but no other pregnant women I know talked about it.

If it's accompanied by bleeding then she should contact someone, otherwise she should relax.

designerjooles · 21/03/2010 21:31

Mee too. I had cramps for the first 3 months when my period would have turned up.
But yeah as the other girls said - call the midwife if she is worried..
