Mumps in pregancy

I just wondered has anyone ever had mumps in pregnancy that has then caused complications? I am still trying to find answers nearly four years after choosing to terminate my pregnancy at 23 weeks due to my little boy having hypoplastic left heart syndrome and I had mumps 7 weeks into the pregnancy. So I have always wondered whether the two were related even tho doc said it shouldn't make a difference. I just can't seem to find closure and I am forever thinking about the ifs and buts.

Hi there, I have not had mumps myself whilst pregnant but I have just looked at a couple of sites for you. If you put in mumps and pregnancy on google it will take you to nhs.uk and it says there is a risk if you are 12-16 weeks pregnant. I also entered mumps and hypoplastic left heart syndrome and it brought up a site in America from a professor who has written a thesis but it is one you have to pay for! Not so sure about that one. Anyway, hope this is of use.

When my son was thought to have it when I was 12 weeks into my second pregnancy, they were very concerned and were going to refer me to someone or other, but he turned out not to have it, and I was pretty sure I had had it. Whether it can cause this type of thing I'm not sure but I do hope you are able to get some closure. x

I haven't seen the NHS thing but will look at that as I was always told there is no risk - not that it could have changed things I don't suppose although I would have tried harder to make sure I didn't catch it. I saw the American site - that was quite interesting. I just feel there must be something for that to happen to me and also I have a friend who miscarried at 11 weeks after having had mumps
