Breast surgery and Feeding

Hi all,

I'm looking for anyone with experience of this. By the time baby is born in May it'll be 3years since I had corrective breast surgery for bilateral inverted nipples since birth. It wasn't a necessary operation, more for appearance and self confidence. At the time I hadnt really given much thought to the possibility of breast feeding afterwards but now, at 31+4, the thought is always on my mind. I have mini scars just below each nipple, but not sure if the milk ducts were actually severed. Over the past few months I've had a bit of yellow-ish gunk (tmi) which the GP seems to think is the tubes cleaning out in preperation for milk but she said I won't know until baby is born and is a case of trial and error if I can feed her. Does anyone know or have any experiences of this? Thank you x

I had breast abscesses on both breasts as a teenager (they weren't sure what caused them, a strange condition of some sort) but they told me at the time of the surgery I had to lance them, that I wouldn't be able to breastfeed. I didn't even try to breastfeed my dd as a result of being told this, but decided when I was pg with ds that I would give it a try. It was fine! I had plenty of milk and no problems at all, even had a problem with over-supply at one point! I would say that if you would like to give it a go, then do. The fact that your breasts are producing what sounds like colustrum at the moment is a very good sign.

p.s I also have scars on my nipples and I think that the surgeon at the time I had the operations said they'd actually cut the milk ducts! I think that milk ducts can actually repair themselves - amazing really!
