Rats @ work & I'm 10 weeks pregnant

I'm 10 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby, and to say I'm freaking out is an understatement!

The whole building we work in is old & falling down, I work in the canteen & know it's all clean & tidy.

However, a rat was spotted over near the tills this afternoon.

We called EHO & the pest control people straight away. EHO is happy for us to stay open & that we are clean & tidy, and doing everything we can to keep things that way. And the pest control men are baiting & trapping the whole site, plus checking & blocking any probably entry points.

But I'm getting all worried about it all, I know I'm supposed to avoid cats & their poo, but should I be extra worried about the rats in the building because I'm pregnant?

Is this something I need to talk to my manager about? Right now I don't want to go back to work, but I wouldn't want to if I wasn't pregnant tbh.

Help? what should I do?

Thanks

you don't need to do anything

sounds like the situation is under control

unless you get bitten by one - which i guess is unlikely

Well I think you are overreacting tbh as there are very few places where rats don't co-exist with humans these days! Just make sure you have good hand hygiene and and use gloves if appropriate (don't know what job you do). Toxoplasmosis is carried by all sorts of animals and birds (and can be present in soil too) so chances are you are already immune to that.

ah, right then, I'll try to calm down then & have another brew.

Plus probably stepping away from google might help too.

Get a grip and do not lick any floors!

Step away from google and have another brew.

We had mice in the house over Christmas and it freaked me out - tbh worrying about it has ruined my whole pregnancy despite reassurance from the GP and midwife.

Please, please don't google anything and go and see your midwife or GP if you are still worried.

We had mice at work and I found a fair few mouse droppings on my desk whilst I was pregnant, no problems. You can only get toxo from cats (especially their faeces, or by touching something that has touched its faeces like in soil as reikizen said )or by eating other animals who have it. If you do fancy eating the rat, then cook it well first and you will be fine.
