Dressing the August baby

Due with first baby at the very end of July (so realistically August!)

Can't get my head around what clothes we'll need, whilst August is summer it will become Autumn very quickly after LO's born.

Was thinking of initially getting some short sleeved body suits and some babygros / sleepsuits (either to layer or use each individually if warm). Would then use blankets on the car seat / pram etc when we go outside. Will obviously get some socks and cotton hats as well.

Does that sounds about right or do babies need more layers than that? Keep looking at bodysuits and thinking their legs must get cold even in summer

TIA

COngrats Jamie.

My ds was born on 26th July during a scorching summer.

Bodysuits, babygros, wee cotton hats and a few wee cardigans all sound ideal early clothes.

Babies tend to be more at risk through over-heating and you will soon know if he/she is cold by the crying! good rule of thumb I was told is whatever you are comfy in plus one layer.

short sleeved body suits, plus separate little stretchy cotton trousers (with or without feet) are a good bet, i found

that way you have one layer in 2 parts, which means you can take the trousers off during the day, when it gets warmer, rather than switching from a babygro to a body suit. Saves washing!

In the mornings, if it's chilly, add a cardigan.

Sounds great. My july baby lived in vests really but it was 2006 and actually hot in the summer!

Maybe some of those short sleeved / leg romper suits?

I have had a August and a September baby and baby grows and cardis are ideal as are short sleeved romper suits.

I always think its a warm place is the womb and its a bit of a shocker for a new baby to be wearing funky stuff.....i love them in a little second skin babygrow .

We just dressed DD (born start of Aug) in short sleeved bodies and sleep suits at night. We didn't bother with a vest underneath anything. It was a very warm August. She did get very hot on some of the hotter days, and we laid her in just a nappy with a cool cotton sheet over her to keep her shaded and flies off.
