Sick day from work?

So I had a very stressful and tiring 7 day, 77 hour week last week at work. I've had today off but having done the housework and grocerys still feel absolutely knackered. I'm due back at work tomorrow. Do you think it's wrong to take a day of sick just because I feel tired.

I'm 9+6 by the way and haven't told work yet that I'm pregnant

You need to slow down. The day off today was supposed to be for rest but you did the cleaning instead - naughty!

Yes, take tomorrow off. Pregnancy tiredness is horrific and consumes you and I think it's worth taking a day off for, but tomorrow don't do anything except lie in bed/on the sofa. Sleep, stare in to space, maybe watch some rubbish TV and eat lots of healthy food. You can self-certify sickness for 5 days so you don't need to tell work why you were off.

I worked long hours in my first pregnancy and it's not good for you. If you keep going, you'll get discomfort from not resting enough and maybe high blood pressure.

If you can afford it, get a cleaner. I didn't do this when I was pregnant (wish I bloody had though!) but did get one when I went back to work and it's been my life saver in my current pregnancy. You're important because you're looking after a tiny, growing baby so do whatever you can to simplify your life and get some rest.

yes, take it off. If you're that exhausted the reality is you won't be able to do anything productive at work anyway. I've generally felt that in that state its actually more honest to take the day off that sit at work not functioning. It will also stop you getting run down which might mean you'd have to take much longer than a day off

take care

Well done - enjoy your day off and stop feeling guilty. You'll feel a lot more guilt when DC is poorly and you have to phone in and pretend you're sick so you can stay home and look after them! Had to do that 2 days last year and felt awful, but what can you do?!

tiredfeet · 16/03/2010 12:23

don't feel guilty!! Make sure you take lots of care of yourself today and get lots of rest and then you will be able to go into work feeling soooo much better and able to work productively etc

are you not due some Time Off In Lieu for that 77 hour week?

early pg is v knackering - it's important to stop BEFORE you get done in, not after!

Dont worry and put your feet up

All will become clear when you announce your pregnancy. Congrats by the way
