It's gone all distorted - like chunks are missing but not spots in it's place - like reading a letter it looked like someone has split water all over it. Hard to type - any ideas? Is this a pregnancy thing? My vision went very funny one evening last pregnancy but MW I called said it was a optician thing. Been doing nothing viosony today ie. only 5 mins on PC earlier and no tv.

Is another GP a solution?

I'd ring the DAU back and raise holy hell - say you have no idea what your blood pressure is (as you are checking it yourself I think you can make this case), you cannot see your midwife, you are having severe headaches and visual disturbances, and ask to speak to the Supervisor of Midwives or the PALS people if you get nowhere.

I'm pretty sure that the other MNers will say the same thing.

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 16/03/2010 11:33

"don't see me unless it's 160/110 "

I really, really am shocked. Someone with BP that high where I work would be on a HDU chart on labour ward having IV labetalol and very reg monitoring.

We could BP as being raised if the diastolic raises by 20 from booking BP. sO IF YOU BOOK AT 120/60 AND IT GOES TO 120/80 then its raised. At that point we would be testing wee for protein and taking screening bloods. If either of those positive/raised then we admit. Have they really not tested your wee? Can you get urinanyslis sticks from the chemist (you shouldn't have to, I know) and test your wee yourself. I think chemists sell them.

loueytbg · 16/03/2010 11:33

Lemonade - is this your community midwife?? If so, can you call the hospital direct? Or alternatively go back to your GP and insist they do a wee test. I can't believe they won't take it seriously.

See link here where it says "if you develop mild high blood pressure, it is vital that you have regular ante-natal checks which can detect pre-eclampsia, if it occurs, as early as possible."

piprabbit · 16/03/2010 11:34

Your community MW should be able to give do a protein dipstick if you take her a urine sample. In fact for a while (completely non-pg related) I had a pot of the dipsticks at home and had to check myself every week.

It's not like it's an expensive or time consuming test FFS.

Can't believe you are being left on your own with this.

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 16/03/2010 11:35

We count BP as being raised. Sorry am so shocked, can't type straight. If you are still feeling poorly today then please ring/go to hospital and try to get seen. Am sad its such a battle for you, it shouldn't be.

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 16/03/2010 11:35

FFS, just went to bathroom to have a shower and there is a fucking circle on the mirror (ie. in my eye) - dunno why I can only see it when looking in the mirror GOnna go chase this up somehow, will keep you al updated x

loueytbg · 16/03/2010 11:36

Sorry just x-posted with lots of other concerned MNers.

morningpaper · 16/03/2010 11:37

PLEASE just turn up at hospital and insist on being seen. It will take them five minutes ffs. DO NOT WORRY about pissing anyone off. Please get seen ASAP.

roary · 16/03/2010 11:37

Lemonade,
I'll call them for you!! I am a MEAN person with a North American accent so I sound extra pushy!

Nymphadora · 16/03/2010 11:38

The /110 is ridiculous. I have high bp normally and was seen as aconcern once I wnet over /100.That was without being pg.

Ask pharmacy for advice as well if they are taking your bp. or see practice nurse to do it then its logged in GP system

Lulumaam · 16/03/2010 11:38

I would go staright to the AN ward or labour ward and phone on the way, or go to A&E and get in taht way

this is extremlely serious, is anyone with you?

morningpaper · 16/03/2010 11:39

ARGH I am so angry for you

I wish you lived near me and I would drag you along myself

liahgen66 · 16/03/2010 11:40

bloody hell, have just caught up with todays and am shocked at the "care" you are being not given.

Get onto them straight away and tell them you are coming in, suggest Pals mmay be able to help if they are unable, thia is completely unacceptable and negletful of a pregnant woman presenting worrying symptoms.

hope all is well. x

roary · 16/03/2010 11:40

Lemonade, have you tried the community midwives' number as well? I just looked it up for you:

01276-604241

(you can tell that we are all very concerned for you, please get checked).

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 16/03/2010 11:46

Am just off out now, going to Lloyds quickly, then gonna hunt down an optician to see if they will see me today so I can go back and say I've seen one. THen I am just gonna go down there (Frimley). The no. I have is for the day assesment unit, I am not under their community MWs due to where I live. Righty-o, will update when I get back, thanks for your encouragement x

lemonade I have been following your thread i hope your ok please let us know how you get on x

Nymphadora · 16/03/2010 11:57

Good Luck -Stamp your feet and bawl at them and refuse to leave until someone looks at your urine and bp!

Northernlurker · 16/03/2010 12:18

This is disgraceful! Your BP yesterday was 24 points higher than your booking BP. I cannot understand why you are getting such a lack of care! Be persistent - good luck!

Lovethesea · 16/03/2010 13:17

Waiting to hear the news and hoping all is well - your care has been shockingly bad.

I have low BP normally, even lower in pregnancy, but I know that if it is 30 higher than MY normal level then that is high for ME. So I would be shouting about my BP if it got to 130/80 - am normally 90/50 or 100/60.

Am so glad you are getting yourself down there - sometimes it is definitly better to get in there and make them deal with you in person than get brushed off on the phone.

I have a BP monitor at home - got it a couple of years ago from Lloyds pharamcy, was only 10 pounds and is the same one the GP uses - really easy to do and might give you an idea of your BP if you are worried about it. Maybe they still sell them?

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 16/03/2010 20:58

Just got back - went to Lloys who said only GPs do testing strips and only the big ones did BP, but rang an optician who told me to go to the walk in eye clinic, they tested BP (down to 127/67), put in eye drops and stuff and said my eyes were fine, that it was BP or sugar. Cue blinding headache while walking to meet DH - I couldn't even see car indicators to cross the road but rang a MW direct (may have been delivery suite - whoever you get put through to when you ask to talk to a MW at reception) who said come to the day unit - BP was down again to 108/68, all bloods came back fine, wee showed +++ white blood cells (L - something) but then it always does for some reason, but they have sent it for testing anyway and told me if it gets worse, or doesn't go to definatly come back and they will make sure BP isn't rising etc. While I was there someone came in with 'just' a headache so no idea why they didn't want to know yesterday. Just glad that someone finally saw me - thanks for all your help

differentnameforthis · 16/03/2010 21:08

This is awful treatment! I was admitted with BP of 140/110 & induced that day! To say they won't see you until yours is that is negligent!

loueytbg · 16/03/2010 21:09

Well I'm glad you got seen finally and your bp is back down. The L stands for lymphocytes (technical term for white blood cells). Could be an infection although why that would affect your vision I have no idea. Hope you have a good night's sleep after all that!

roary · 17/03/2010 10:45

Thank goodness you got seen and now you know how to get seen! Glad youa re OK>

shipsladyg · 17/03/2010 21:37

Yet again a topic pops up on Mumsnet so relevant to me! I had a vision disturbance today followed by a mild headache and was quite worried about it. from reading here and a google it sounds as if I had an occular migraine too brought on my having missed lunch and not having had much sleep (plus have got a chest infection) so thank you all for your input, it's put my mind at rest.

mrsdaisaku · 08/09/2012 19:41

This is also very pertinent to me, 23wks with twins, came over all blotchy eyed and zig zags through my vision. Did a search and yet again MN has the answer. Hardly slept last night and did a wee bit too much housework today. Early night for me I think.... Hope you're doing better lemonade.
