Just wondered whether this was excessive .

Before pregnancy I was 9st 6lbs and 5ft 5ins. Now at 20 weeks I'm 10st 4lbs, I feel like I've let myself go...oops

I put on 3 1/2 stone in my first pregnancy and was back to only 1/2 stone ove rmy pre pregnancy weight a week after the birth, I had been underweight though, BMI of 16.5, although I ate loads. This time I am almost 17 weeks with twins and have lost half a stone that I haven't put back on.

I think everyone's different, I wouldn't worry too much, especally if you're eating normally.

I was 9st 12lbs before I got pregnant and have put on 15lbs in 23 weeks. I was also wondering if it was excessive too. But after talking to friends and reading my books I think it is maybe just slightly more than average but nothing to worry about. I imagine I will put on another 1 1/2 stone in the next 17 weeks which feels ok. I think as long as you eat well and get a bit of exercise you are doing fine, I mean we are pregnant so our bodies are going to change and we can always diet afterwards. Although I don't much like hearing people say they are 20 weeks and have put on no weight at all

crossed posts midori my wasn't directed at your post! Just jealous in general

midori1999 · 12/03/2010 17:23

LOL, it's fine. Nothing to be jealous of though, my BMI was just over 30 at my booking appointment, I am rather more well covered these days...

I put my weight loss down to being a total pig with an appalling diet pre pregnancy, then having extremely bad morning sickness and now just eating healthily/sensibly with the odd treat. I'm eating three sensible meals a day and fruit or yoghurt in between with the odd biscuits or pack of crisps.

I put on 14lbs in the first 12 weeks - I was constantly hungry! but at 19 weeks I've only put on another 2lb. I put about 3 stone on with dd and all bar 8 - 10 lb came off within the first 6 months with the rest coming off when I finished breastfeeding, so not too worried.

Momdeguerre · 12/03/2010 17:43

Hi, I think normal weight gain is very flexible in pg. I am 35 weeks and have gained 27 lbs with most of that gained in the first trimester when everyone else seemed to gain nothing or even lose! Made me feel terrible.

Last pg I gained 3 1/2 stone and lost it all in a few months. I started at the same weight this time too 10 stone and I am 5ft 11.

Try not to worry or get too hung up on comparing gains with others - I really think that there is quite a large margin of normal weight gain.

Petsville · 12/03/2010 19:14

It's a bit difficult not to worry, though, isn't it? I'm 18 weeks and have put on 5lb, which I know is fine, but for various reasons I may have to be back at work within 2 months of the birth: I have the kind of job where I have to wear suits and money is likely to be tight, so I'm desperate not to have to buy new clothes post-birth and I'm really panicked at the idea of taking "a few months" to lose the weight afterwards.

2babesmum...im stalking you! Can you please pop over to student parents and pop on my SW thread please?!

notsotinybaba · 12/03/2010 23:19

I didn't put any weight on until about 20 weeks, then piled on 3 stone (and DD was 5 weeks early). Had serious addition to krispy kreme donuts . Have always been slim but looked like a hippo by the end of pregnancy.
Everyone is different. My weight fell off quickly afterwards and was down to 1/2 stone over pre-pregnancy weight within a few months.

first1 · 13/03/2010 06:25

I was 8stone 7 pounds pre pregnancy, and am now nearly 31weeks and weigh about 10 stone 4 pounds, which frankly I hate. Doesnt help that I pick up everything chocolatey in sight dammit!

asampras · 13/03/2010 10:27

I was 7 stone 1 pound pre pregnancy (i'm only 5ft 1!)and recall weighing myself at 39 weeks and i was 9 stone 3 pounds, but a few days after my DD was born i was 7 stone 5 pounds so must have been mostly baby and fluids. I put on lots of weight after DD was born - no time to eat proper meals and there was lots of chocolate in the house from well wishes! I'm 12 weeks pregnant now and i will be banishing all chocolate from the house when DC2 is born!!

asampras · 13/03/2010 10:29

i should add my DD was a healthy 7lbs 1oz which all the midwives thought was a big baby for someone my height and build!

Ludlowlass · 17/03/2010 14:47

Hello
I am 22 weeks, and have put on 15 lbs. Think I have been eating too much cake and chocolate though - so prob a bit too much. But am trying not to worry about it!
I think we are all different, and also some of us (not me) are more careful about what we are eating than others! Now where did I put those chocolate eggs carrot sticks!
