ovarian cyst removed in pregnancy?

Has anyone been through this?

I'm 20wks and last saturday was given emergency surgery to remove a cyst from one ovary which had twisted. Have been left with a (albeit neat) 6inch wound with 10 staples in it just underneath and to the left of my belly button. My amazing unborn child is okay but I was told on two occasions that it would be painful for the rest of the pregnancy as the scar tissue stretches with my bump.

So, I would love to hear from anyone else who's been through this operation in pregnancy and find out how it did feel for you. Was it painful? Was there anything you could do to help?? The doctor told me not to put any oil on the scar tissue or to moisturise it...

Also, how long did it take for you to feel 'just pregnant' rather than recovering from a major op? Am still rather sore, but hoping it'll improve on sunday (mother's day!) when the staples will come out.

I had a large ovarian cyst that was detected on my 12 week scan (1st pregnancy). Had to wait 4 weeks until it was safe to operate, then had surgery to remove cyst and my left ovary at 16 weeks. My scar is dead centre, 5 inches in length.

The suture was taken out about 10 days after op I think, and everything was fine, and I just took it easy at home for a couple of weeks.

I had no symptoms beforehand, and it was a huge cyst with a lot of fluid, so good job I had an ultrasound. The good news is that my pregnancy progressed normally and I had a normal birth at 40 weeks. My scar is absoultely fine aswell.

I'm now 16 weeks pregnant again (off one ovary!) and was dreading my scan, but no cyst this time, phew!

The consultant never mentioned anything about moisturising, I did though when I got over my queasiness about it! Just whatever else I was using. Do you know why he/she said not to?

Ohh I had this too. 8 years ago now though, my scar goes from my section scar to my belly button.

I was 16 weeks pregnant as well.

My cysts measured 22cm in diameter

They showed me pictures afterwards it was huge, like a football.

How are you doing now? If i remember correct, my op was jan, I felt normal by march/april but then he was born in April 10 weeks early (NOT DUE TO OPERATION!!!)

I had pre eclampsia because ive got a blood clotting disorder.

Went on to have dS2 with no cyst problems

Julezboo, I can't believe how BIG yours were. Did you have ovarian torsion too? Or did they operate as a precaution? I'm shocked!!

No idea about the moisturising caution sweetbeanbag but when the scar's properly closed i'm sure i'll start to slap on the bio oil. Maybe doc thought I meant straight away.

So how did your expanding belly effect the scar's healing? And was any aspect of it painful?? The worse thing I've found so far has been the 2 days running up to the staples coming out where the skin that was punctured by them was really starting to get stretched.

Did either of you have to inject fragmin too? Not sure if you did Julezboo with your disorder.

Certainly made this pregnancy a little less than ordinary.

My mum had a huge cyst removed when 16wks preg with my sister. When recovering on the ward the doc used a doppler to check if baby had survived the operation (this was years ago - technology/procedures changed massively) and she couldn't detect a heartbeat. Said 'hang on a minute' and left my parents alone for 10mins, came back with a different machine and said that that one hadn't been working properly. My parents heave a massive sigh of relief when they hear the baby's heartbeat and the ward give them a big round of applause. The doc got a huge telling off from their boss for not explaining malfunctioning equipment and making my parents panic.
My mum didn't work for the rest of the pregnancy (spent a lot of time reading in the sunshine sat in the garden). But her baby was fine, born normally and she went on to have two more babies.

HELLO, so glad to hear of other mums to be that have had operations during pregnacy!! i was 19 weeks an had to have my appendicts removed, so i also have a sore 6 inch scar that had 10 staples holding it together on my right side, but now im been told i may need a c section to deliver my baby?? did any one else deliver normally an what have you been told about the delivery??

gemcgem crikey! Really? Did they say why you'd need the c-section? I think someone muttered something about not needing one to me but you've prompted me to ask midwife about it at next appt. How low down was your incision? Was it vertical or horizontal??

So many questions!
