Officially 39 weeks today, but by my own dates and dating scan I'm more like 39+5 - 40 weeks (2nd baby).
I have had period-like pains and things that felt like they could be a very brief contraction for a couple of days, but nothing definite.

This morning 6am-ish, I woke up with achy pains, went to toilet, lay down again, then felt very definite sharp "pop" feeling and a shooting pain low down, followed by a kind of strange "bubbling" feeling for a second or two. I thought it might be waters and expected a gush but there was nothing. By the time I got up, felt normal again. But then started leaking a fluid that is kind of yellowish/opaque but very runny, though not as runny as actual water or wee. It's a trickle/small gush that comes every few minutes though it's calmed down for the last 20 mins or so. Not bucketfuls, kind of like a very very heavy period type of flow, but it would add up to a good teamugful so far. Baby feels low and heavy.

So have phoned hosp and told the midwife all this but she thought it was more likely a "late pregnancy discharge" and to monitor for a bit and phone them again later. But with the pop? And could a discharge be that much and so suddenly? (I never had such a discharge last time but then my waters never broke either so have nothing to compare it to...)

Would love to hear what waters breaking is like or if you've had something like the above and what it was.

Hi there
My waters broke with my first baby (currently pregnant with no 2) I was in bed just reading and it just felt like I started to wee myself (no pop) but the usual muscles weren't stopping it so I rushed to the toilet and couldn't get off for some time!!! The first part was with some discharge and not like normal water as you have described but after that it felt very much like wee! (sorry tmi) It was more on the light pinkish side to start with (which midwife said was totally normal)
Not all waters gush though but I have heard the pop with lots of other women, they've probably told you to pop a pad on and see how you go, in my experience the more you move around, sit down, get up change position etc if it IS your waters, you'll get a little gush each time (or a big gush) Either way it defo sounds like baby is getting ready to make an appearance!
Hope that helps? the waiting drives you mad doesnt it!
Good luck

I had a pop, i was in the bath so had no idea how much had come out. When i got out and was get dressed the rest of them came out. You can get it were the pop and a trickle and then the rest comes out shortly after hth

Thanks v much - definitely not getting the "uncontrollable wee" thing but it's the pop that's making me suspicious.

Mine was a pop, trickle down the leg. Went to loo to have a wee, more came out then, stand up, OK, back to loo, more. When I caught some in a glass it was amber coloured with bits in. A urine dip stick was ++++ for protein (I was trying to persuade myself that it wasn't my waters as I was 35 weeks)

I think it sounds like your waters TBH. Good luck!

i remember not being sure if my waters had broken because i was expecting a 'gush' too. I had a similar 'pop' and then trickling every so often, within the hour it was coming faster but never had the 'gush' experience. If they tell you to go to the hospital to check bring lots of pads with you, i didn't and they made me sit in the waiting room sitting in a puddle of waters for 2 hours. Everyone was staring at me and i was in tears!
