Oddest pregnancy symptom so far?

Mine, definitely, is that I simply cannot stand eating the crusts of bread.

Even as I lift my sandwich out of its wrapping, if I so much as imagine having a big mouthful of crust, I delicately gag at the thought.

Rest of bread - fine, crusts, no go.

And I'm not even vaguely queasy or sick, I just cannot bear the thought of the crust in my mouth.

That's pretty odd right?

Another strange one, which is a little odd and annoying everyone at work, is that I have to cover my mouth with the clothes item I am wearing. It's almost like a comforter for feeling sick! x

SarahAlice · 12/03/2010 21:40

I am fine with mice and burgers, but even looking at the rare bit of beef being cut on the M&S ad (only way I used to like it!) makes me feel sick! Also, my mum in law cooked lamb the other week and couldn't manage it! Sliced red meat and me at the mo seem to be a no no!

I am 14 weeks and looking forward to the other bizarre aversions and cravings I get! Cravings at the mo are water and fruit. How exciting!! LOL! x

It's not a pregnancy symptom as such but it is because of pregnancy that I suffer with it now. You know the advert for Butlins on the telly where a catchy tune goes 'Sunshine, happiness and...' forget the rest of it but it always used to be on the telly when I was feeling at my worst with morning sickness so that even now, 2 years later I still can't listen to the tune without feeling sick.

I also used to wake up with the strangest sensation in my lower arms. Almost like there was heat running through them. I used to lie awake at night wondering what I was feeling and not being able to pin point the sensation.

catbus · 12/03/2010 23:06

In my 2nd pregnancy I could not stop listening to Tom Jones; haven't a clue what was going on there...

cinnamongreyhound · 13/03/2010 16:09

Just the smell of coffee would make me sick and I haven't drunk it since. I can't stand it again this time but it's not quite as bad.

My leg hairs stopped growing the last time I was pregnant but haven't this time. Had a boy before so maybe a girl this time?

I have had similar feelings about food, where just thinking about it made me feel sick but it varied day to day.

Don't think I've had anything particularly strange though.

happywheezer · 13/03/2010 16:16

I still can't eat boiled baby potatoes with their skins on with butter after that being the last thing bfore I was sick.
But I adored the smell of vicks and used to keep a pot under my pillow to sniff. I did try to eat it but it wasn't the same....

lizardqueenie · 14/03/2010 13:04

amazing naughty dreams about v attractive men, not famous but hollywood ish not my usual type at all...its the best perk ever!

yama · 14/03/2010 13:43

I have become addicted to Deal or No Deal. I get tearful at the start it they've had it hard.

I rush home from work to watch it.

ARbaby · 14/03/2010 15:41

My weirdest symptom is having a spotty bum! It's not very attractive. I'm dreading having the baby in the hospital and someone commenting on it when I'm giving birth. I've got piles too (tmi) so I don't know if it has anything do with that? God, I hope nobody reading this knows who I am!

pinemartina · 14/03/2010 15:56

Craving raw salmon and hyper sensitive to smell of other people - can detect overpowering washing powder, sweat, toothpaste, breath and other odours in queues at supermarket etc..

yama · 14/03/2010 20:48

Yes, me too Pinemartina. Breath is the worst. I find myself backing away from colleagues when they are talking to me.

snugglejunkie · 14/03/2010 21:15

OMG I love this thread!! Wish I'd've found MN when pg.

I had the full raft of pregnancy symptoms - yet the poeple I knew who where/had been pg pretty much sailed through it which made me feel like a right wuss!

Monster ms - could only eat beige/bland food for a long while. Totally went off meat or anything that had any actual taste iyswim. Started putting vinegar on chips. (normally erggh)

Smells pretty much all repellent, espesh petrol stations.

Fig rolls! WHY?? fgs! Had a bag of them next to my bed as only thing that would help when woke up sick in the middle of the night.

Lemon jelly babies

Towards the end, was going through a punnet of plums every 2 days.

Restless leg Weirdness. never felt that before. Other weird 'electric shock' type twitched in arms. Twitching right eyelid. God I sound like a right freak!!

Epic epic indigestion. Any meal was accompanied by a flagon of gaviscon.

Wonky pelvis - pain and felt like it was made of plasticine. Not fun.

Sleep orgasms only thing that made it remotely bareable.

Haha - will stop there!! Thank god I'm not doing it again!! Did get a lovely lovely ds at the end of it though

HoopsAndBelly · 14/03/2010 23:15

another one here without leg hair growth, haven't shaved since before christmas, head hair is looking lovely and long though

UnrequitedSkink · 14/03/2010 23:20

My god, it never even occurred to me that the hair on my legs stopping growing might be pg related!

Most irritating symptom is that every day, at about 1.30, my right ear kind of pops and I can hear my own voice and breathing echoing in it really LOUDLY. And it lasts for about 5 hours. Wierd.

Nymphadora · 15/03/2010 07:09

My leg hair hasn't stopped can't remember previous two times.

The only time I have a sense of smell is when pg. The worst thing I had the other day was when I smelt funny

cinnamongreyhound · 15/03/2010 08:29

Same as many others with smell!

Why is it that the time when almost everything has the potential to make me feel sick I can smell every tiny scent known to man from a mile away???

Hollyoaks · 15/03/2010 08:40

I also hate the smell of my dh and can't stand my bosses breath. I have to cover my nose every time she talks to me and I'm sure she's started leaning in now!

Elsa123 · 15/03/2010 11:51

Apparently the hairy belly can mean that you're carrying a boy as its your body's way of dealing with the testosterone. I've found that mustard tastes of mould. Very strange!

tanmu82 · 15/03/2010 12:39

when I was pg with DS I absolutely loved the smell of Flash bathroom cleaner! When I cleaned the bath and then ran the hot water, I would lean over the bath inhaling the steam! It got so much that I bought a small round baby sponge which I used for the sole purpose of soaking up the bath water and then putting the sponge in my mouth and sucking it dry! funnily enough, DS did this too from the moment he could co-ordinate himself enough to accomplish it lol

LukeyBsMum · 15/03/2010 13:02

im 36 weeks today and I love CIF floor cleaner but it's actually torture smelling it because i really want to drink it. Also i have become an ice addict i cant get enough ice eating about a bag a day! so happy i have finished work so i can eat ice all day long

GeekIsGood · 15/03/2010 18:30

So glad a few people have mentioned the sleep orgasms. I am only 6+4 but have had about five in the last couple of weeks. Didn't even know it was linked to pregnancy before but I was beginning to suspect! Very weird way to wake up.

Also long vivid dreams (about all sorts, not pornographic surprisingly, well mostly not ) which I rarely have normally.

SarahAlice · 15/03/2010 19:37

GeekIsGood I have had the sleep orgasms, but just didn't link it to being preg! Have been having very odd and vivid dreams too!

Craving sleep too! God I love it! Cant wait for bed time!! he he!

Boobz · 15/03/2010 20:12

Self wiping number twos. Top that for weird.

Ozziegirly · 15/03/2010 23:46

I had loads of sleep orgasms in the first trimester, probably 3-4 a week, with me doing the most unusual things in my dreams

Now I probably have about 1 a week, but still doing things that I wouldn't in real life, like my most recent one was an episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" which turned into something a LOT more X rated than I would have expected. My brain clearly has time to kill at night as it was full of a plot, dialogue, costumes and incredibly filthy couplings.

I couldn't stand any sharp edges when preggo - wall edges, dorways and I absolutely couldn't even hold a knife, or cut meat (shudder and gag).

I had these sleep orgasisms also, and such vivid dreams - brilliant!

And felt really normal during pregnancy - skin and hair looked really good and glossy, and nails grew long and strong - I got a whole years work done in six months - had huge energy.

6 months post delivery I was back to my old ways...

LukeyBsmum you are probably craving iron - ice smells very like blood.
